Where do you place your effects (RV-3) in the circuit with a NV 112 amp,,,,post EQ Patch?,,,,Pre EQ Patch?,,,between amp and volume pedal?,,,,

Sonny, I don't use a lot of effects when playin' my Jackson Steel, but the one I love is the Clear E9th Steel or Clean E9th Steel where the tone is really bright and clear, especially since I play mainly E9th tuning.

I use a NV112 or a Session 500 most of the time,and I put gain-based effects between guitar and amp,and time based effects in the effects loop.I also use the volume pedal patch.

When I'm not using one of the Peaveys,I use a Music Man 212 HD-150,which has no loops.Then I run guitar-effects-limiter-volume pedal-amp.

Mostly between instrument and amp. Older, or smaller, amps don't usually give you the choice. If I have my Vegas 400 and my ElectroHarmonics flanger, I put it post EQ so I flange the whole sound. My Peavy Classic 30, which I'm using a lot lately, has EFX In and EFX out jacks, so the flanger would go in there. I'm not gigging 5 nights a week in bars, so I don't play much rock slide guitar on the steel any more. I had my flanger, a distortion pedal and a phse90 I used. - Jack

Hi Sonny.
I would say between volume pedal and amp is your best bet, I would also have a very short patch lead from the VP out to the RV-3 'in'. And a short lead from the outlet of the RV-3 to amp, short as possible. If you're gigging, keep a medium and a long lead. Use the long lead for when you do have to sit a distance from your peavey amp, otherwise use a 2mtr lead or thereabouts. It's less leads to use doing it this way.

It depends on what type of volume pedal you use, active (Hilton etc) or passive (Goodrich pot pedal).

I use a passive pedal, so I hook up my delay as so:

PSG > amp input

Eq send > volume pedal input

Volume pedal output > delay unit input

Delay unit output > eq return

Derby PSG to Sarno Black Box to DD-3 to 112, Holy Grail Nano in pre-EQ patch. Sounds great to me, and to the guys in the band.

When folks ask me what that black box is, I tell them--if I crash you can find out what happened

For the last couple months I've been trying something new, and so far I'm loving it. I use both NV400 inputs.

I use one of the Hilton pedal outputs into the NV400 direct, no amp reverb.

The other output through a Planet Waves strobe tuner, then RV3 into the other amp input, mix in the RV3 to taste.

There's just something about having 1/2 of the signal to the amp being completely clean that really seems to work for me.I can mix in as little or as much effect as I want, without disturbing the totally clean %50 of the signal.

Thanks for the response (I'm not really asking "which" effects you use,,,but "where" in the circuit is best). I use only NV 112 and RV-3,,,,RV-3 looped into post EQ loop, whether I'm using Goodrich or Hilton volume pedal.

PSG to Sarno Black Box to DD-3 to 112

You might want to try taking the DD-3 out of the "chain" and running it through the post-EQ effects loop.

I believe any effect between the Black Box and the 112 will interfere with the output of the Black Box in some way.

Just my opinion.

I was running the effects from the back of the NV112, though this last setup I stuck them in the post EQ patch. Sounds about the same to me. Of course I have tinnitus and hearing loss in one ear

It really depends on the individual unit. If you can put it post EQ and not get any distortion out of it, that would be ideal. I did, so I had to put my pedals between my volume pedal and the input to the amp.

It depends on whether you're recording or playing live. If you're recording it's best to record all the tracks clean with no effects, then you can add them at mixdown. Remember, you can always add effects, but, once they're recorded, you can't remove them.

If you are going to use a fuzz box you get better definition and punch if you go from the steel to the fuzz box to the volume pedal.

I just set the RV3 on top of my amp and run from the steel strait to a Hilton then to the RV3 and a short chord to the input on the amp.

LTD/Evans: guitar - Pepperoni - volume pedal - Holy Grail - amp.
Session 500: guitar - amp - volume pedal - Holy Grail - amp. The 500 has a great phase shifter, so I hold the pepperoni. I also own a Chili Dog, but I rarely use it: it goes in front of the volume pedal.

Sometimes the Grail hums, but not too loud. Then it goes before the volume pedal until it can learn the words.

Danelectro named several stomp boxen after food. Chili Dog is an octave divider and Pepperoni is a phase shifter

One of the most useless purchases I've ever made was the DanElectro Reel Echo. It's supposed to replicate the sound of a 50s tape loop echo, but it doesn't even come close.

I use the NV1000 with pedal steel exactly like that.

I used to run my guitar pedalboard thru the Post EQ loop, but I prefer to use a separate tube amp (Twin Reverb or Bandmaster) for electric guitar and mandolin with the other pedalboard effects. Its extra work, but drive pedals just dont sound good thru a solid state amp to me, no matter where you put them.

I agree with David.Less cord length is better.George L cables even better than Monster cables that cost $70.00 +.
