I need to make up one for my Fessenden Six Shooter about 27" long which is threaded on one end and bent 90 degrees on the other. I can find 1/8" rod which is too big and 3/32" rod which is too small.
Is 0.100" a standard diameter for pull rods? It is a good diameter for 4-40 threads. Or is it okay to put 4-40 threads on 3/32" rod for the threaded nylon bushing? According to the tap and die charts 3/32" is too small for 4-40 but it could be different with the pedal steel guitars.
I see that the 4-40 x 1" Threaded Nylon Standoffs (Female) are available from Mouser (#534-1902E)
Here are the numbers for same but in 6-32 and 8-32 threads in case anyone is wondering:
#534-1903E 6-32 x 1"
#534-1904E 8-32 x 1"
Thanks in advance for any help with this!

P.S. I am going to try to get the OEM part from Fessenden but that might take awhile to happen hence my DIY approach right now. _________________ www.blueguitar.org

The Fessy rods are 7/64" or .109. Stainless rods are hard to find in this size, but you can get drill rod in that size pretty easily. The thread on the 7/64" rods should be 5-40. It will be very hard to do a 4-40 thread on 7/64" rods. 3/32 rods can be found at any welding supply store, 4-40 works fine with them. I would just use the 3/32", 4-40 thread, rods and George L tuning nuts,rather than the stand-offs. |

Thanks for all of your suggestions! I'm not sure how well it will work with 3 pulls on the A pedal so I want to first test it out with the 3/32" rod that I can get locally.
This is what I have been using. E9th pedals up and A6 pedals down sound great, but I'm not crazy about the chords produced with each pedal sounds individually:
Code: |
SIX SHOOTER ALTERNATE TUNING (E9th)
PEDALS GAUGES
A B
E .015
B ++C# .018
G# +A .024w
F# .028
D ++E .032
B ++C# .038
|
I want to test out the following variation of that since it will give me a really nice E6add9 chord on the A pedal and a Esus7add9 on the B pedal (while keeping the same E9th and A6th tunings pedals up and pedals down):
Code: |
SIX SHOOTER ALTERNATE TUNING (Version 2) (E9th)
PEDALS GAUGES
A B
E .015
B ++C# .018
G# +A .024w
F# .028
D ++E .032
B ++C# .038
|
Any suggestions on gauges would be welcome.
Steve
P.S. Once I get up to speed on the li'l Fessy I can move over to my Sho Bud S-10 #6139. I'm using the Six Shooter as a non-pedal steel with pedals ( ) to switch between different tunings- a super lap steel with legs so to speak. _________________ www.blueguitar.org
