thats odd they dont put the "correct" permanent adjustable bridge on these, like the '63 Madison (they have them in other words) - maybe they dont have an 8 string version tooled up?
i personally think there would be a "decent" market for the '59 D-8/9 non-pedal consoles, even if $4k is a lot for a non-pedal, if they did it period correct like Clinesmith is doing. i wonder if they still have the old original molds for these?

from just casual window (web) shopping, most any lacquer figured maple body D-10 pedal steel these days is in the +/-$5500 range, so $4k may be about right. many of the custom 6 string lap steels like Asher, Lap King, etc are in the +$2K range - and thats for a LAP.
quality american stuff is getting expensive these days - i was banjo shopping about 2-3 years ago and found you cant get a new "mastertone" style american made banjo for less than $4k and thats far less wood/metal/build time than a double neck steel guitar.

These guys build guitars that are amazing, I had a double 8 non pedal built , a few years ago, now I have a non pedal 10 lapsteel bulit by Jackson, however it seems today that everything is just over priced.  |
