Are you talking about half stops (like the 2nd string D# ->D->C#) or tunable splits? The Carter should have a half finger in the 11th position of the endplate cutout where the nylon nuts are. There is only 2 holes for the half stops, so you could only do 2 strings with half stops without having to use another string to activate when you are at the half stop in the string.
For tunable splits (allowing you to use 2 pedals to gether to get a 3rd note. ex: string 6 raise G# to A and at the same time hit the lever that lowers 6 to F#. You will end up with a note somewhere close to a G, but not likely to be in tune), you need to add another rod for each split. This extra rod is used to tune the lower note. Search for split tuning and you should come up with some info. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . That is a split tuner you are talking about. I don't have a split on my 5th string, but do on the 6th. The extra rod is on the same bell crank as the lower on the 6th string lower knee lever. I have it in the bellcrank hole closest to the guitar and the top raise hole in the changer (I think... My guitar is at my gig, but I can check for sure tomorrow). The extra rod just barely raises the string. Just enough to bring the F# note up in tune. I imagine it would be the same for the 5th string.
You mentioned wanting to do it on 5, 6, and 10 (the "Franklin Pedal, I presume). I don't know if you would be able to do all 3 strings at once, but who knows. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . There is an order to tuning splits and I think... it goes like open string first, then the tuned split last the pedal.
so for a 6th string G#, G, F#
Tune open
then B pedal and Lever
B pedal last
This always seemed backwards and confusing to me. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.

Thanks Ken , you just saved me a lot of problems, my 6th string was all over the place trying to keep it in tune , it would go sharp then flat when i pressed or released the B pedal , so i tried your way of tuning the split and the pedal and so far no problems,, thanks |

The way I tune my split on string 6 is (I read this method here on the forum somewhere:
- Tune G# open at keyhead
- Tune A note with the raise nylon nut.
- With A & B pedals down, tune the split (G) with the nylon nut that affects the lower (G# to F#) giving you an in tune G note.
- release the pedals and now tune the F# note with the added raise rod to bring the F# in tune. I also have my E to D# lever engaged so the when I tune the F#, it makes the chord in tune. If I don't, the chord sounds a little off.
