Just got home from the Gulfport Steel Show, and it was the most fun I've had since my honeymoon. So many great players there I just can't say enough about them. I saw some amazing things and heard some amazing music. Sera Buras was there with her group, what an astonishing voice! On top of the great steelers, there was Roy Rosetta whose piano playing was right on with any song that was played. There was even a jamming tuba player! The food was excellent and you could not ask for better hosts then Bill and Betty Stafford. I came home with some cd's that are five star stuff. Any one that can make it should put these get togathers on their schedules. Do you get the impression that I liked it?

Thanks so much Howard. It was our pleasure to have met you. Really enjoyed your playing. It is folks like you that give us all these good times. Glad you were able to come down to Gulfport. Had a great time on our Friday night frolic too.
This was a very special event for us here with all the great talent we had on the schedule. "SERA" is going to be a very big name-and very soon. Reminds me of the time Elvis was with us here on the coast just before his talent exploded for all the world to experience.(The crowd reaction was exactly the same when they first experienced Elvis). Seeing her on stage with her dad on his steel was a good memory for me. I am so very proud of all my friends and the talent they share with and for us. R.J. Buras was obviously bursting with pride with his daughter there on stage wowing all the audience. And the word "wow" just does not cover this young lady's talent. Stage presence to the hilt folks. Sera's group of very young musicians are world class entertainers-not to mention the best in musicianship. Maybe I can persuade Roy Rosetta to really describe "SERA" properly.
Anyway, Howard, the pleasure was all ours and we want you to set up your steel and be on the program at our next event in Feb. your lead guitar playing was the best. I was happy to see you on stage with your Les Paul guitar during that fantastic TUBA STEEL JAM to bring our program to a rousing finish. Tony took a break on his tuba during our southern rendition of "Faded Love". This young tuba play had probably never heard that song before, but the break he took- after all the players had their time- just brought the house down. What a way to end the night. Thanks to all.
More info about the show on other threads, and again I really sincerely thank all for coming down.

Thanks for treating me and my wife to a special show in Gulfport on Saturday. I have to tell you, my friend, that is the best, most diverse, steel guitar show I have EVER attended. SERA Buras just blew me away with her vocal and piano talent. I worked for Jimmy Swaggart about 20 years ago and he used to have a saying that would apply to Sera....."That girl can sing the bark off of a log!" Please express my compliments to R.J. His fatherly pride was obvious.
I usually find a couple of surprises at every show. Dave Easley was a huge, pleasant surprise. His style is eclectic, but his talent is amazing.
Wilbur Stewart was a treat and inspiring. And Ed...sorry I missed his last name, was a joy to watch, playing the bass and to listen to. "I've Got The Blues For Dixie" has got to be one of my favorites.
Bobby Bowman was a hoot!
And the always perfect Buck Grantham has to be my favorite picker in the world.
Keep us on the invite list.

Yes we did have a great time in Gulfport. And thanks Jeff for the kind words. That makes me want to try harder to play better. Of course it's the fellowship that's wonderful at these shows, just being with friends and enjoying the music together. The Lord has truly blessed us all. Merry Christmas to all of you . I wish I could have been there in Gulfport at the jam. Especially seeing my friend Bill Stafford.
I sure missed him not being in the Grand Rapids LT. Zinn HOF fundraising show this year.
If I remember that Gulfport is a nicer area to spend the winter than going to Florida....Happy Holidays...al ..
