I'm looking at a Sierra lap Steel that has a Rick Aiello/Jason Lollar MRI pickup. I'm not really sure what to expect from this pickup and may want to replace it with the original George L 10-1. If I do buy the Sierra, I don't want to over pay for it. I was told I could sell the Aiello/Lollar MRI pickup for the $300 range. What's this pickup worth?

replacing that Lollar pickup with a George L pickup would be like replacing a 1969 Fender Telecaster with a 2011 telecaster made in Mexico.

ok, maybe not that extreme - but Lollar makes some very high quality pickups!! He is a small boutique manufacturer based out of Seattle - not that many people know about him, but I guarantee that pickup will blow the George L out of the sky.

Please try it first :D

I'm quit familiar with Jason Lollar. I've owned several Tele's with his pickups and they are indeed, great pickup's. That said, I replaced the Lollar pickups in my favorite Tele with Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro neck and a Seymour Duncan Jerry Donahue bridge pickup. I guess it's what the individual person is looking for in sound. The Rick Aiello/Lollar in the Sierra may be wonderful. But, if it's not what I'm looking for, it doesn't make any difference who built it. I'm just covering my butt in case I want to change it out. Between the cost of the Sierra and the cost of replacing the pickup, I need to know what it's worth if I need to sell it. The seller is figuring it's worth $300 and the price for the Sierra reflects that at $1200. Especially since used Sierra's run $900/$1000.

Dennis ,
You would have no trouble selling it for at least $200 if you would so choose ....I have one of Ricks pickups in my Sierra that still puts a smile on my face .....Again , YMMV ..... Check it out before you write it off though ... I think you will be pleasantly surprised .....Jim

Just chiming in on Jason Lollar's skills and workmanship. I replaced my 6 string guitar pickups with custom made pickups he made that far exceeded my expectations. He's incredibly smart and helpful. I'd put his pickups against any other, FWIW.
