On my 73 sho-bud with two hole pullers/barrels ,what do I need to do to get the split with the B pedal. I have it on my 84 sho-bud, and really like the 7th chords I get. Thanks

I'm not an expert on ways to get splits, but as I understand it if there is no split screw in the back of the changer (which on your guitar there isn't, unless it's been modified), the usual other method involves adding another pull rod, which it seems to me isn't possible with the single/single changer. But someone with more knowledge and/or ingenuity may be able to come up with some way to rig up a split.
On my LDG with 2-hole pullers and barrels, I installed a Sho-Bud half-stop on the 6th string whole step lower instead. |

This thread talks about the possibility of using an additional barrel on the raise rod to tune the split. Seems like it would work to me, as long as it's tuned in the correct order:
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=202057
So, the extra barrel would be on the 6th string raise rod at the cross-shaft for the 6th lower (lever presumably). One would first tune the B pedal raise in the standard way, then the split on the lower rod, then the lower on the raise rod again. Almost the same procedure as tuning rodded splits on a 2 (or more) raise/lower changer. Has anyone tried it to confirm if it works? |

Yes I've set this up many times and works DANG well.
You need another roller on the puller for the Lower; and a barrel behind it; that the raise rod runs through also and on to the "b" pedal raise.
Tune your "b" pedal A note first as normal; then with that A note engaged you lower a whole tone to G and tune that on the lower(making sure you have enough travel to get to G.....
Then let off pedal; and tune the lower from G# to F# on the new barrel raise; as it will barely engage.
