Hey guys.... I heard a while ago about how Lloyd or Mooney or someone (can't remember right now) had a double neck guitar but one neck was basically a 6 or 8 string "dobro" tuned neck with little or no pedals...

I saw on the Sho Pro site (I have a SP SD10 btw) this Cat Bro guitar... does anyone have any experience with these? I couldn't even find a real picture on the Sho Pro site.. I would love to hear some audio of the "dobro" neck... is there an actual resonator and bronze strings? or is it just a lap steel type tuning with minimal pedaling?

Josh, I can imagine it would be fairly easy to build a Marrs style "cat can" 6 or 8 string into the rear neck of a double neck steel. Marvin Fluger is making these style of lap steels currently. I have one of the older ones and when you run it thru a MatchBro, it sounds fairly close to a real dobro. I think the new ones have their own electronics built into them. That would be even cleaner, I think. If you're not playing C6th back there, why not?

Here's their site:

But maybe Sho Pro is already doing something similar. I like this idea a lot.

Steel Guitar Canada has a Show Pro with the "Cat Can" on the rear neck for sale, however, for some reason the photos are no longer available.

I run my rear neck with 6 strings, open G same as dobro and use the simulator goodrich about a $1000.00, it's very good especially if you run through a processor and have an acoustic amp simulator in it, you can dial it in! I only have one knee set up on it to raise 4 and 1 to help with the sloppy slants that i don't have at speed, it's a good filler sound and i dont have any fancy chops but it works great in all that charlie daniels type stuff and then use the fuzz for rock Very Happy

Ive been using this setup for awhile, works great for me. Dont have a dobro-sound on it. I use it as a lap steel, but I guess a bobro would make it dobroish enough Smile

Tor,
Did you ad that yourself or was it factory ordered ?
What kind of bridge do you have on it ?
Ever since I went universal a few years ago I`ve been thinking of having a double neck like that built. Maybe 8-strings....

I built it myself. I ordered the guitar without a pad, but just a blank board instead. Ordered the bridge fra Ryan Ryikinava(or something like that, cant remember the spelling Embarassed )
