If any of you are a big Al Perkins fan, as I am, I have two seats reserved to see Al Perkins at Puckett's in Franklin, TN on Friday night July 30th . This is the best table in the place, right up front. I really wanted to go but I am not able to attend because of a big concert date that I can't change. If anyone is interested in these seats, please let me know asap.

Yea.. I play in a group and Al did the steel tracks for the album... they were great lines to cop and I learned a lot from doing it!

Yes, here is another Al Perkins fan. Though I admire many more great steelers, Al was always to me an outstanding player because of the subtle tones he made on certain songs.
A good example of this is the song "Next time"by Dan Fogelberg: Here he repeatedly uses 4 tones to end a line and to move to the next line.
I hope you recognise the tones I mean, been searching for them for a long time on my own pedalsteel but I can't seem to find the right ones.

'Next time' is a great song, I have been listening to Dan alot lately.

He used steel alot and with great results, 'Homefree' with Weldon is great, I sure miss him!

I met Al Perkins when he was about 12 yrs old. He was taking lessons from Al Petty at AL'S Steel Guitar school in Odessa, Texas. It was obvious that he had exceptional talent on the steel guitar. Havn't seen him since then, but have followed his great career as a steel player. There was another young player ( who did very well in his steel guitar career) taking lessons from Al at the same time. His name is Bobby Tuttle. Jody.

I just left the show at Pucketts. Al was great. Closed the show with Crossroads. Played his 6 string fender in G
and wore it out. Band was good.

I just found that record in my own collection and I listened to it, probably for the first time, It is very nice as you say, but doesn'nt sound that complicated to copy. I will give it a try after my vacation that starts tomorrow.

are you guys talking about the little figure that's played often after the words 'next time' ? Bb chord at your 13th fret (A+B), strings 4-5-6-7.

There's another version where Dan is backed by Fool's Gold, but the lick in question not played. (It's probably an earlier version).

Albert I am sorry I didn't get in touch with you. I had 4 in my party but I'm sure they would have worked with us. Nice venue and good food. My first trip and thanks to you I got to see Al live. He's been a driving force in my steel playing now for 30+ years and it was nice to see he's as nice a guy as he is a player. Thanks again for the heads up on the show. Of course I know this song and thanks for the link Steve. I guess there's a lot of us old California country lovers out there.
