Okay guys here's the deal. I have to play for a benefit saturday in Tyler, Tx. My wife's family lives in Burleson, Tx (sw suburb of Ft Worth). So, being the loving family oriented type, I ask my wife if she would like to visit her family for the week. I'm in Burleson now. I have all week to, well I don't know what I'm going to do but I have all week to do it. Any steel related stuff around? I know there is a guitar show today but can't make it. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

I'll be playing at Billy Bob's on the honky tonk stage this week. Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00 pm each night. If you come out, give me a shout.

You can go by and see Bud Carter. Check out: http://www.steelguitar.com/ for directions.

Norris Family Music is very close to Carter's. Just ask them where it is and they can direct you. They willhave a showroom full of used steels and amps.

I'll be playing at Gilley's in downtown Dallas on Friday night. Stop by and say Howdy!

I forgot to add that Herb Steiner will be with the great Johnny Bush in Ft. Worth Saturday night. Right now I am planning on going over there and checking that out. I believe they will be at the Stagecoach Ballroom.

As far as stores in the Fort Worth area, there is one called Lamb's Music. The owner is Steve Lamb, great guy and fine steel player and repairman. Haven't been over there in quite a while, but Steve usually has a few steels in stock as well as other goodies. Here's all the info:

Lamb's Music

Hope to see you on Wednesday or Thursday...

I'm playing in West Ft. Worth Tonite. Our group is fiddle, steel, bass, drums, guitar. We don't play any top 40 but if you want to hear country the way it is supposed to be, we are worth the trip. No cover charge..Band starts at 7PM. From Burleson go north on I-35, take the Abilene exit (I-20/820 west) stay on I-20 untill you come to Loop 820 North, go north until you come to I-30 wesy (Weatherford) exit go west on I-30, exit at Linkcrest turn left go under the bridge, turn left on the service rd. The "Finish Line" is on the right. Don't worry you'll see the cars. Sounds like a long way but really not too bad.

Do not mess time with Charley Norris - He is a treasure and loves to talk with Steel Players. And yes he is close to Carter - both would be good times for any steel player. My boys live in the Dallas area and I try to make both at least once a year.

Gotta' have a Steel in the band Joe

For everyone that emailed and asked about the benefit in Tyler, I just got the info. It's a private party at $200.00 per ticket and all the tickets are sold. The proceeds go to the East Texas Crisis Center. Sorry! I wished I could have seen you all there. Maybe next time.
By the way, if you get a chance to check out Buddy Hrabel, don't pass it up. We went to the Finish Line last night and WOW! What a time. Great steel guitar and good ole country music.
Thanks for all the info everyone. It's really making my week something special.

Glad your having fun Whip. I have been aiming to go see Buddy, but haven't made it out there yet. I wish you were gonna be around Friday night for our Gilley's show, but it sounds like you have had a busy week nonetheless. Did you get out and see Bud?

Yes I'm having fun and makin the rounds. I stopped in at Lamb's yesterday and just got back from a trip to see Carter's and Norris Music. Everybody has been real nice and put up with me interfering with their day! Norris Music is going to be closing Nov 20th. Charley is retiring and going out of business. Sorry to hear that too! Not to many places you can go and find a steel or two setting up in a music store. Thanks again and I hope to get a chance to meet some of you on down the road. Be sure and look me up if any of you ever get to NW Ohio.

Thanks for the info about Norris Family Music. I haven't heard that they were closing. That's too bad.
Glad you had a good time down here in Texas. It's a very musician friendly state! If I ever get up to your neck of the woods, I'll definitely holler at you.

You also get the coolest name award! Whip Lashaway...sounds like a bad guy in an old western movie!

Best regards,

Snidely Whiplash (away) was Dudley Dooright's arch enemy. (Always puttin' the little lady (Gwen?) on the tracks). (A lifetime of thanks to Jay Ward too.)
