Wanting to get some feedback and opinions on which Fender tube amps are good with pedal steel. I know you can mod alot of them for pedal steel, but I'm wanting to know about stock amps, maybe on the less expensive side.
What about the Blues Jr. , or the Champ 600 ,Pro Jr.? Or the Super Champ XD 15w combo?
I would be miking the amp on gigs, so I think something smaller, 5-20 watts tube power would be sufficient power.
Appreciate any opinions,or Ideas, not extremely knowledgeable about tube amps, other than I love the tone!!

blues Jr is actually not half bad for steel. Gotta watch for early breakup though. If you keep it quiet and mic it you can get by. Not ideal, but workable.

The onboard reverb on the blues Jr sounds awful though, so you might want to use a pedal

Thanks , Tim. What about the Fender Hotrod Deville. I'm seeing alot of things stating this is also a good steel amp. Whether in the 4x10, or the 2x12 configuration?

What is Gary Carter, from The Marty Stuart Show , playing through? From what I can tell it looks to a Hotrod Deville, or H. Deluxe. Although his looks like it's a 2x12

I tried my stock Blues Jr. with pedal steel (used to use it for Blues harp)
Sounded boxy and narrow, not warm and round at all, I didn`t like it...

Here's my attempts as using some of the above amps and a few more with pedal steel. Far and away the original silver face Fender Princeton Reverb is the best. Only great at lower volumes though! Next best and better at higher volumes is the Dual Showman.

Princeton Reverb

Deluxe Reverb Reissue

Blues Junior Tweed

Super Champ XD

1974 Princeton Reverb

Dual Showman

Gibson BR-9

I can't speak to that because I have never used it. I have used many old Fender Amps and they are all pretty good for steel at low volume. The Blues JR was workable - but at low volume.

@ Greg - my amp is very similar to a princeton reverb, but with extra reverb controls, re-voiced preamp and EQ and the output power of a twin. I agree, the princeton is an amazing low power amp for steel. There is something special about that circuit!
