So guys what do you think can the conversion be done?
I need a really really really affordable 8 string.

Anything is possible, the hard part is figuring out if its worth it.
Do you already have one you want to convert?

What's your definition of "affordable"? There are a number of inexpensive eight string lap steels out there that might sound better than the PowerSlide.

If cost is the main issue, go with a used Morrell 8-string. I just bought one for $149 to use as a spare lap steel for students and for practice. I can leave it in the studio where I teach and not worry about it. Yes, it's a cheapo, but you did say "really really really affordable". Winking

That would be a good call Doug. And if you wanted, with less effort than would be needed to convert the Peavy, you could actually make one into a pretty decent sounding player.
A Wallace True Tone pickup and a new bridge would go a long way for not a lot of coin.
