I've always loved this Dorothy Lamour version, but I came across this following version which has an added introductory part.

Was that introductory part originally written but omitted by Dorothy Lamour for the movie, or was it added recently ?

I have the sheet music, and this is the original verse to the song. Too bad most versions do not include it. The song was published in 1937. Lyrics by the great Frank Loesser, and music by Alfred Newman.

As an aside, just listen to this travesty.

Why use a guitarist on a steel guitar show that DOESN'T know the chords of a veritable standard..That is inexcusable. Especially when he's reading them and STILL getting it wrong. He wouldn't last five minutes on a show over here. Is it just because he's someone's friend. And why use a solid guitar when the NORMAL guitar for that job is an arch-top ?

Well, from the fellow who wanders on in the grass skirt halfway through, he probably thinks it's Mooning Manakoora. Laughing

That's the superb Leonard Zinn (Ace steel player and Rhythm Guitarist)
making a light hearted appearance, just what was needed at that point.
In the whole of that "Battle" there's only the briefest of skirmishes with true pitch and the actual melody.

There seems to be some kind of wrinkle in the publishing history of Moon of Manakoora. It was used before the movie Hurricane. Its in the title sequence in Mr. Robinson Crusoe from 1932.

Different words but still Alfred Newman. That family have it running in their viens, Lionel Newman wrote Adventures In paradise. Randy's songwriting is some of the best stuff to come out of the seventies.
