Anybody know of any clubs in the French Quarter that'll have some steel music this weekend.....preferably Cajun Style?

Taking a weekend trip over the weekend and would sure like to listen to some Cajun bands that have a steel.

Mike: It`s unlikely. Real Cajun music is rare in the French Quarter, which caters mostly to tourists. Let me know when you`ll be here and I might help you find some good music, but Cajun music is too subtle to compete with the loud R&B, Blues, and "Dixieland" AKA traditional New Orleans Jazz. Plenty of great Cajun music, but not so much in the city as in Cajun country ( south Louisiana) Laffayette, Opelousas, etc. More hip choices out of the Quarter, very close to downtown, as usuall, go where the locals go. Call me and I`ll take a look around for you. There is no bad food here, but I will point you to some cool spots if you like. Prepare to Enjoy, Steve 504-866-4054

Mike: You are in luck if you want Cajun music. This weekend at the Audobon Zoo is the Louisiana Swamp fest. Non-stop Cajun music, free with paid zoo admission, and cajun food as well. The zoo is close to downtown, and it`s a zillion times hipper than any loud,smoke-filled,overpriced tourist trap french quarter bar. You could take the streetcar to Audobon park from downtown. If I can help you ,give me a call.

The Audoban Zoo! What a great place to hold a music fest!...and all Cajun music?

You can't go wrong. Wish I were there.

Mike,
I was so blessed to be invited to go with my daughter to New Orleans this past February. AND of course, we went down to Bourbon Street on Saturday night. Quite a jumpin' place. We went into a place for some cajun food and there was a live cajun band playing real loud stuff and just by chance, almost hidden was a steel guitarist playing! It was so crowded I could not get close enough to even see what he was playing, but one thing for sure. You could not hear the steel at all above the cajun sound. It's like he wasn't even there. I never thought of a steel in a cajun group. Learned something new!
