The next time I read a post here about players obsessing over what Picks, What $100 bar to use, how long should I practise scales, what are the best (most expensive) picks to use, would this $3,000 guitar be a good starter?

Im going to refer them to this You Tube, a man having the most fun.

James.

An Amazing Talent - Surprised Cool

He sees no barriers probably because he believes that he is not disabled.

Here's my favorite.
His name is Shawn Ishimoto.
He is blind and plays his guitar on his lap.
He used to play at my hotel until he tied the knot and moved to California.
Incredible player, the best musician we had.

Awwwww Derrick. You just hit on one of my favorite people. I've had the pleasure to have met and filmed Shawn Ishimoto a few times. One of the best there is for sure. Here is one, that for some reason, I didn't post in the public area of youtube. I've got over a dozen others up of him as a solo artist and when he was with the group "Na Palapalai". What a great guy he is.

Aloha Derrick,
Right on the money man...he is an incredible musician...and Alan tells me he plays steel as well? That is scary cool.
Oh, and totally off topic, I am LOVING the Stringmaster D8 even more if that is possible...

Shawn has a lot of material on youtube, mostly Hawaiian, but I've seen this guy do everything.
How he memorizes the lyrics and chords to hundreds of songs is beyond me. Truly a gift from god.
Don't know where his gigs are in California but if you happen to catch him anywhere there, you're in for a treat.
Norman, do you happen to know where he is playing?

Hey there Dave! Yes, he also plays lapsteel, bass, ukulele, piano, and drums. Aloha! Very Happy

Aloha to our old friend,- Derrick,
Mahalo for bringing Shawn back to my memory. Although Peg had never met him, I met him a long long time ago,-maybe in the early or middle 90's.
I didn't know that he got married and moved to California. I remember his Mother telling us that Shawn was playing ukelele when he was 3 years old. Do you know of any video available where he is playing the steel. Amazing!!
Mahalo again,

Aloha Derrick. Regarding what Shawn is up to in the LA area. He has a fan page on facebook that is updated by his wife Jeni.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Shawn-Ishimoto/228548070823?ref=ts&fref=ts

Also according to Shawn's personal facebook page it says that he is:

Musician/music director for a relatively new and very beautiful halau (hula school) under the direction of Kumu (teacher) Maile Frauchiger.. "Hula O Hoaloha"

Aloha Wally,

Not aware of any video available of him playing lap steel. If I come across any, I'll let you know.
Bobby said he had seen him play though, and he was amazing.

Thanks for the link Norm! Very Happy
