Steel Guitar at Orange County, California

The Hulaville Store in San Clemente is the new spot for things Hawaiian and with a South Sea Island flavour in Orange County.
Apart from ukulele and slack key, it now features the steel guitar. Following a steel guitar concert on 6 May by Kay Das and The Orange County Project (steel, rhythm, bass, mandolin and tenor/alto sax), there has followed
- a beginner's steel workshop 20May/27May/03 June/10 June and
- an intermediate steel guitar workshop to follow 08 July/15 July/22 July/29July.
- a steel guitar "Steel and Strings" concert featuring Julie Martinez on vocals on 9 July.
I have six enthusiastic students for the first workshop, all coming along very nicely. Shortly to be organized at Hulaville every first Friday of the month will be a steel guitar kanikapila.
Stop by at any of these events!

Nice looking West Coast Steel (1st photo). I have one in maple (natural)...really like this green color. They are great sound steels.
The photo is fairly dark, so I'm assuming the green might be "Sea Foam Green" of "Surf Green".

Steel Guitar Workshop, Hulaville, San Clemente ( May/June). Thanks to the class that came along for the first series of four sessions. A four-week series of workshops at intermediate level will follow in July/August. Some in the class had not handled a steel guitar before, and all had made great progress in the four sessions. All students received a workbook and a CD with backing tracks to practise with. The tuning featured was C6.
The title of the series of workshops is "Steel Guitar is Easy"......

Tom,
I believe the colour is "sea foam green". The fancy orange overhead lighting made it greener than it actually is. I have had a lot of fun with West Coast guitars. I like them especially because of the clean, neutral sound from the Lollar pick-ups which enables easy later addition of any tonal colour in the mix or amplifier. I have played and recorded nahe nahe Hawaiian to grunge on them. I have two brand new West Coast Steels for sale from Bob Littleton, if anyone in the Orange County area is interested.

Great pics Kay, I'm especially happy to see shots of Kevin, who first put the bug in my ear about taking up steel.
