While I have played in many bars, I'm talking about the ones we use to play steel!!

I have recently begun using a heavier bar, I believe it's 11.5 ounces. The previous one is 7.5 ounces. I seem to like the ligher one for faster player, and vice versa. Any thoughts from you big time pros out there?

I usually have two bars handy since I play dobro with my band also.If I have to play one of those mind boggling solos I use the shubb. Its square on the end so I can pull off the string with it.I can pick the string with that bar.I like the heavey bar because I don't have to mute so much.Sort of lazy playing.I also like the heavey bar if Im playing in one of those sleezy bars.It might come in handy!lol

I prefer to practice with a heavier bar at home as it strengthens my hand making the regular bar I normally use that much easier to use for long periods of time say at a gig or jam.
