Well I was reminded by Stuart how much fun that old Amazing 3 string 1 pedal thing was.
I’ve had mine for a long time but if you don’t have it Stuart said you can find in on the Saturday live broadcasts where it has been a subject for the past 2 weeks.
What is a lot more fun is to apply some very useful theory “One persons Major may be another persons Minor or another persons Dom7” . A same good Major lick can be a good Minor lick or a good Dom7 lick as well.
So I applied that theory to the little Amazing thing.
I have generated this in BIAB on Piano in 6 sections on one MP3.
The first 3 have the Amazing thing’s same exact notes (written in G) played over the key of G and then over the key of D and then over the key of A. The 2nd 3 are the same identical chords (as written in G) but with the melody transposed as follows: Playing the melody in G over the key of G and then playing the melody in C over the key of G and lastly playing in F over the key of G.
In other words a 3 chord song played in the Ionian,Dorian and Mixolydian modes.
Each section is in 3 choruses total of about 1min and a grand total of all 6 about 6 min.. By that time you'll probably have the melody memorized.
I think this is as amazing as the Amazing thing.

and to add.., as you study it, view it with it's numerical value, I,IV and V chords...this neat little ditty , once you stop playing it as a song, is a brilliant piece of instruction , but you have to break it down into it's individual elements then it will really come together . Bits and pieces here and there..It's Gold Jerry, Gold !

Tony your right. I use the Amazing thing in parts and in 3 modes. It was a consequence of applying it to my Pick Blocking Plus.
Stuart tabbed out the parts in grips for a Pick Blocking exercise for me years ago.
This is a copy of that exercise that shows the Amazing thing in grips, not the melody notation.

Bo if memory serves me correct that would be the "1 pedal 2 finger 3 string song" by Hal Rugg and Weldon Myrick.  The two fingers being the thumb and middle finger.

Don it's the same one. I deliberately left the "2 finger" off because the thing sets on the same three adjacent strings all the way through and is just perfect for thumb and 2 finger Pick Blocking Plus. |

I notice that the mp3 example Bo posted didn't resolve properly and left some doubt as to the Key.

The very first band that hired me to play Steel wanted me to play Silver Wings and I couldn't. I got fired...( ya think ?) the thing about it is I never even heard of the song before they asked me to play it. I was a Blues/Rock Guitar player converting to Country , I bought a Maverick and of course I thought I was a Country player because I owned a Steel...
NOT...
When I first acquired the Weldon/Rugg exercise , I didn't "get it"..fortunately maybe 10 or 15 years later , having the little song committed to memory , one day..all of a sudden, it came to me like a light bulb being turned on, I beleive I heard parts of it in a song and that's what made it click. "I know that , I can play that" I said to myself..
Somewhere around here I still have the 45 and the tab in the original envelope that came in the mail way back then...it's kind of a like a memorabilia thing now !

Stuart, to my ears, your version of this doesn't sound much like Bo's. If you could use a different setting on the synth for a more "organic" sound, it might make it easier to decipher from an auditory standpoint…  |

Might be better yet, to hear it done using pedal steel since that's what it's suppose to be for? Then folks could hear how it's really suppose to sound. With a decent backing track as well.
We could then hear Bo L's pick blocking at the same time..
Just a thought! |

Since this was a subject in a live broadcast and still available for purchase I didn't want present notation or steel playing of the thing. If you want that purchase it.
Stuart generates all this stuff on the computer in a matter of minutes. To take the time to make a recording of it on steel would be the difference of presenting or not presenting in a topic.
The thing is in straight eighths and needs no steel guitar embellishments to present it.
Stuart and I used the same exact straight eighths midi rendition in the Key of G over ever example with and was just simply suggesting you could play the same exact thing as modes played over different keys.
If you want a great backup rendition here are the chord progressions I randomly chose from.
So choose one and make your own.

I have BIAB, I've loaded all of Bo's chord progressions on one page one after another, skipping a line between each progression. I highlight the progression I want to play against, and use the Loop Function. It plays through the selected progression as many times as I can stand. I'm using the "c_swing" Style @ 100 speed. Slow enough to understand what is happening and hear the changes. Even though I can rip through the exercise, I'm just now understanding it in a musical context against the different chord progressions. Good practice.

The thing about Speed Pickin, which is what this is all about, is that you can't just play and end up right, well I guess you can but..
one really needs to have an understanding of the fretboard for it all to make sense...otherwise a project like this is just a little song that we play and it makes no sense.
With this exercise, break it apart into sub sections and you can see where it lays out against a chart and where it is going as it heads to the next chord on the chart. If you do this you will see that it is very repetitious, and quite on purpose. It lands on the ROOT notes multiple times.

Here are Bo's Chord Progressions, in a BIAB file. At least for the most part, I am not BIAB literate enough to get the ending chords exactly right, but it is usable.

"Highlight" the progression you want to use and then start using the "Loop" function. Try starting with the speed at 100...
