Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with the changer.
When I raise the fourth strimg with pedal
"C" the finger doesn't go back the way it
should and it leaves the fourth string in
the open tuning much too high.
I was wondering if I need to clean and lubricate the changer, if so can anyone tell
me the way to go about it.Do I need to remove the changer from the guitar...

Monroe, it wouldn't hurt to clean your changer real and then use a good lubricant on it (please don't use WD-40). 3 in 1 machine oil works well. And another area to consider is the roller nuts. If they don't turn freely, it will give the impression, that the changer is not doing its job. I had this problem a couple of years ago. Good Luck!

I am sure you checked,but in case you didn't there might be something,like the end of a string binding in there.Shake your ax real good and see if anything falls out.

Sounds suspiciously like a broken string end stuck in the changer, doesn't it?

Make sure there's enough free play for your C pedal. Back off the 4th string tuning nut, retune the string open, then step on the pedal try to tighten the nut to get it up to pitch again.

your comments, Im feel sure oen of them will cure my problem. No one answered part of my question and that was , what is the proper way to clean the changer and if it needed to be removed from the guitar...

Monroe - If you're not an expert, I'd advise to NEVER remove the changer.

I would never use 3 In One oil on anything. If you have ever looked at an old sewing machine...notice the brown gummy deposit left on the moving parts....this is 3 In One oil residue. I would use a good turbine oil. It does not leave a residue. I also have a Carter, and a Broken string end has caught in the changer a couple of times causing the problem you describe.

Monroe Jeff Newman said in a Vidio I have to clean the under carrage and Exchanger you spray it with a can of lighter fluid and let it dry. Then lube it with 3 and 1 oil.
