Decal Letters on Fender Dual 8

I purchased a Fender Dual 8 in 1954 and the music company that sold it to me placed decal letters spelling out DAVE on the front. I really liked it, but now it is a problem.
I am trying to sell the guitar and a couple of guys have asked how to remove the letters.

:(  :whoa: Does anyone know what will remove these letters. They are about one inch high, and 3/4 inches wide.

One player said he would merely add "I'm Not" in front of the Dave and let it go.

Someone mentioned using denatured alcohol to remove the lettering. Has anyone tried this. I don't want to do anything that would hurt the finish. Although it is a '54, it looks great.

Hi Dave
My suggestion is to leave the decals on there, and let the buyer decide. I'd be interested in seeing a pic.
If the buyer's name is "Dave", then hey, it's good!...Jerry

Naphtha / lighter fluid should loosen the glue and is generally safe on nitro finishes. Whatever you might try, its always best to test a small inconspicuous hidden section first.

That said, I agree with Jerry and would not recommend messing with it. Even if they came off fairly easy, the paint behind the letters will have aged differently and your name would still be visible.

Nice looking guitar Dave ! I'd opt for the "I'm not" option...

Just tell 'em "Dave" is the name of the guitar.

The guy that bought the guitar has a band named
Aqua Velva.

Jim says he will merely delete the D and the E, and he has the desired lettering A V .
