Who is the psg player that was on ABC this morning with the band, I believe "Big and Rich"? It was a great shot of a black Emmons during the last song they were doing. |

James I was about to hit another channel button after the first couple of songs until I got a glimpse of the steel sitting back on the right, then I started to get excited. I told my wife, "hey we might hear something yet". It sounded real good. I didn't get to see your amp; beautiful black Emmons though. I would have loved for them to have turned you loose on a fast number. Could you ask the guys up front to really turn you loose the next time on national TV and alert us when the group in going to be on? It doesn't hurt to ask, right? They got on this "without prejudice" theme and I can't think of a better way to demonstrate a primary instrument. |

Charles,
Thanks for the kind words. Boy, if they had turned me loose on a fast number I would have been in REAL trouble! I play several instruments with Big & Rich and while pedal steel is one of them, it's not my primary instrument. I'm certainly no speed picker for sure but I love to play steel. I just enjoy being a sideman and playing the right part to fit the song. That's where it's at for me.

Theresa,
It is indeed a blast working with Big & Rich. I may not be getting big or rich (well, maybe big. We eat good) but we sure are having a great time. B&R have been slammed here and other places for being a "disaster," outrageous, not country, etc. but they currently have the number one selling album on the country charts. They blend elements of all kinds of music into the country format and while that is making for some controversy, it is also bringing a lot of new people to the format. We're currently touring with Tim McGraw's "Out Loud" tour through the fall and also doing a few of our own dates as well.

Great to hear you have such a great gig, James!
I didn't get to see the ABC show. Please post a heads up here for future events, regardless of the critics.
I remember you from the original TDP. You were always so helpful. You boss at that time was another star musician that has been slammed on this forum by some narrow minded members.
While they are complaining, you are playing on national TV and in stadiums. You win.
