Bill,
I would like to say a BIG Thank You for another Great Show in Gulfport MS.
If you were not there well you just missed out
Doug Jernigan was wonderful as usual he just amazed me with all the songs he played.
Hal Higgins and his Group "Philadelpheia" (yes the spelling is correct) started the show off with a wonderful set of tunes from their new CD.
I was glad to be a small part of this Show.
R.J Buras did a good job on that S-12
J.R Jones is always great
Mike Brewer came by with his Jazz Band for a good set
One player they called Big Will proved that no matter what The Steel Guitar can be played
Thanks "Big Will" wat a insperation to all.
David Easley has a style of playing Steel Guitar that words cannot express. You can say he ain't country, but at least he is playing the Steel in a different way and getting it exposed to people that might not hear it otherwise.
Also to my friend Ben O'Del who did a great job singing and pickin' the Bass.
The backup band was right on, sorry I don't remember all the names
See you again

Larry, as usual, we had a great time together at the show. It is always good to see our old friends. Everyone on the stage shined all day. It was a fun day and I hope to be a part of the next "MANY" to come.

No RJ, Whut I said wuz, "Boy, Hal, looks like somebody done and slapped a haircut on you".
But, that was taken completely out of context. Before the day wuz over, the laugh wuz that I said, "Hal, I'm gonna slap a haircut on you". Now you are right. That was funny.,,,,,,,,,Ben |

But can you put it in words to where other people can get a picture.
Can you describe this on the forum.
Maybe that's why he wore the Black Cowboy Hat

Kudos to all at the show for a job well done. The show flowed through the day and with the variety of groups, it didnt get stale like some shows I've been to. Philadelpheia was as tight as they come and sounded great. Sera was fantastic along with Doug, as usual. Larry was great and had a nice selection of music. Sera's dad R.J. can really play that lead and sounds fine on his steel also. Words cant expess Big Will, who didnt miss a lick and finally, Bill, nothing else can be said that hasnt been said about you, so I'll leave it at that. Hope everyone gets the word and packs the house from now on.
Best show in town, including the Casinos.[This message was edited by R.C. Vick on 13 August 2004 at 12:00 PM.] [This message was edited by R.C. Vick on 13 August 2004 at 12:03 PM.] |

Well....I wore the Cowboy hat to cover up the bad "hairday" (do).....but the slappin a haircut on me came a few days later....the wife did that.....lookin' better now (LOL). I know Ben if that's at all possible (LOL). I appreciate the DSSGA and all the fine folks that are a part of it. Philadelpheia surely appreciates the compliments and comments and the opportunity we had to be there and present our music for you folks. It's a pleasure to be able to play for people who appreciate it the way you do. A special thanks goes out to the Gentlemen who made up the Dixieland band who graced the stage. Mike Brewer, Ed Clark, (and I forgot the other guys names, oh and Gerald Ross, too. Don't know if I'll make October or not yet.....if'n I don't Bill....you guys knock 'em dead.....HAL

Ben,
I want you guys to know that Hal's haircut may be sub-standard -- but his voice and piano playing is way above standard. He proved that on my new CD, especially on "The Lord's Prayer".
Thanks for a great job, Hal.

ROY !!!! You would have had to be there to appreciate what transpired that opening few minutes.
I guess I need to clear this up before it gets completely out of hand.
Hal had his black cowboy hat on and as I came through the side door, he stood, tipped his hat. Now you just have to imagine, in the heat of the day, after unloading all that equipment and setting it up. Tipping his hat reveiled his hair standing straight up. Kinda resembled a "SPIKE" do. Sorta shocked me and the band.
Now in regards to Brother Hal's ability to pick and sing, would not matter if Debbie snatched him bald, the boy can turn it on. He always does such an outstanding job at our shows and we are proud to be associated with such a great talent.
Hal always tells folks, "I know as long as Ben is messin wid me, he shore as heck ain't mad at me". Ha !!!!
That Larry Moore story, (beads and bangles) I ain't backing off of.

Ben....and all the gang.....I really get it from the guys of Philadelpheia.....and don't mind at all, 'cause I know that all of you are "just funnin'" (I think? LOL). I appreciate all of the comments and compliments directed toward me.....but if wasn't for the Good Lord giving the talent, and the ability I wouldn't do what I do. I love it. Thanks Roy for allowing me to be a part of your CD Project and for RJ & Bill for doing a great job on the "MIX". It turned out great....it's a great project that Roy should be very proud of and if you don't have a copy of it, I'm sure Roy will come on and tell you how you can attain one.
