Anyone know what string gauges Jerry Byrd used for his C6/A7 tuning? Especially what he used for the 3rd string(the A string)? Thanks |

What he used personally evolved constantly over the years and depended on what tuning he was using and what sound he wanted, vs the basic gauges that he would suggest for players to try. He even had 16s on the top three strings for a while. |

I've always felt the above referenced page provided
excellent descriptions of Jerry's STRINGS, picks and bars.
Many believe that Jerry's tone was superior during his earliest recording days, back with Foley, Tubb,
Cassels, Moody and others. That would have been with his little Ric Bakelite and Volu-Tone amp and his special use of Spanish Guitar strings.
Not being a player, but truly appreciating steel guitar, I've had to rely on the knowledge and words of actual players and musical experts. |
