I am thinking about changing my back neck on my pedal steel to E6th with the f# on top. the c6th has the D on top and I get a lot of mileage out of that. so my tuning would be top to bottom. F#,G#,E,C#,B,G#,E,C#,A,E any suggestions on the Gauges???

I'd use a fairly heavy E9th set like the Ricky Davis Jagwires. Discard the middle F# (.026) and add a .056 for the low E.
You might want to go a little heavier on the high C# - .016 instead of the .015 that E9th players use for D#. There's a pedal that raises it a full step, so you wouldn't want to go any heavier than .016.

now the reason behind this is. as most or all know I play for David Church aka Hank Williams Sr. I like using the pedal steel to cheat on the slants as they come up and there really was not that many slants in Hanks stuff. now also he mostly played in E more than any other key. when I play the E stuff up against the 23rd fret well thats a little to high so this way will put me a little lower on the fretboard. for you play out of the 4 pockets most of the time for the hank sound in this case of the E would come out of the 19th fret makes more sense to me. and thats all that I am playing now its a good gig so might as well make things work better

For what it's worth, I've never had any problem duplicating Don Helms parts on the E9th neck. Don never played the B and C# strings at the same time. I generally keep the A pedal down, and release it between notes when I need the B string sound.

Thank you Bob thats what I will get. I am not going to try that until June have a lot of work for May and Id better not try something like this until I have time to tinker here with it. but I will post how it works out
