The Wallace True Tone pickups are a good choice if you like the single coil sound. If you prefer a humbucker, you can use the George-Ls 10 string pickups on an 8 string. They don't have pole pieces so you don't have to worry about the string spacing. The Lawrence 705 style pickups with the rails instead of pole pieces would work too. |

I don't think Bill is involved in it. Another company evidently has the rights to make a reissue of the 705. Bobby Seymour and others are selling them. I've heard very good reports on them. |

I use Rio Grande stringmaster stylepickups. They sound better than anything else I've tried and the price is reasonable. Feel free to contact me for pricing... _________________ John Allison

PS...the last time I contacted Bill Lawrence about getting single coil 8's they were not making them...Even after getting through the confusing tangle of Bill Lawrence, The Bill Lawrence, The Original Bill Lawrence, Bill and Becky, Wylde, Keystone, etc, etc...
Maybe they're back in production? _________________ John Allison

It's sure a lot easier to build 7 string steels
All kinds of pickups available. I've been using the DiMarzio DP 702 bridge humbuckers with great results.
69 bucks on Ebay from a music store in Texas.
I've built only one 8 string steel, for a Hawaiian, with a horseshoe type pickup. |

Great help guys!
I've been traveling a lot lately and unable to get to my computer but I'm going to follow up on all the advice here and see what we can do. I have three of the old CC8 style bodies I'm going to go ahead and finish so I may put a different pickup type on each one. Super help!! Thank you. _________________ old Melobar guy |
