Here's a shot of Iggy and Me doing an original composition during the recent benefit show for the late Ron Asheton (original guitar player in the Stooges).
I'm playing my Tony Francis Style 4 Wessenborn (build of which was documented here)...I used K&K bridge pickups (thanks to Steiner G) and the Baggs Acoustic Referance Amp (DI output of which when straight into the Front of House system)...all sounded great...singer got a little choked up but what the hell.
I'll pass along a clip once we get the Pro Shot version...there is one on You tube, but its shot very far away with a shakey hand.
Anyway, lots of info on Sony's site http://www.iggyandthestoogesmusic.com/us/news
Hoping events like this will help to pass along the awareness of the lap steel to the younger generations lexicon as there has been quite a great deal of buzz around this. It was broadcast around the world on sirius xm radio and there will be a documentary made by Jim Jarmusch...so alot of young eyeballs will see it.
Best,
james

That's a really good picture of you, James. Thanks for sharing the instrument with the world. From the clip I heard, the sound was fantastic, so kudos to you and Tony Francis and Iggy, too. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Maybe not every day, James, but two days in a row ain't bad for Stooge steel! http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=204317 I was hoping you'd post about this soon, but I had to start this other thread yesterday if only for the great pic, a real keeper, and fortunately someone had that aud. video.
Thanx for mentioning the brand/model, and for merely doing such an extrordinay act, truly a beautiful thing you did for Ron. Even from the limited YT audio the Francis sounds sweet. Very moving piece you came up with, and nice that the crowd simmered down to pay attention... yet another wow! moment in Stooges history, and no doubt there's more to come. I read that the show will be rebroadcast 2 more times this month. |

Thx, Mike, Mike and Ron...I this standing on alot of you guys shoulders here at the forum. What a resource for lap steelers...especially Bill Leff, for getting me going in the first place...its a steep learning curve all right, but the payoff is some beautiful music and loads of fun. |

Hey James,
Greetings from Sandwich, NH. I'm friends with Tim Michael, Brian Michael's father. He told me Brian at Gryphon was really excited about refurbing a les paul and then building a guitar for you. Hope life is good.
All the best,
Jeff |

Thanks Brad and @Jeff, yes Brian is my go to Luthier in the Bay Area. I'd be lost without him...even got him into the lap steel...now he's just finished restoring a 7 string Ricky ....playin' in C6 tuning too. |

Seems the humbuggies that have harrassed this download ceaselessly have won another round, keep trying or catch the rebroadcasts which you can archive with audacity. Maybe the xm sound will be better than the MP3 dload which was all mids and highs, no guts, but Ron's Song fared OK. Thanx for the heads up, j. |

For those who are interested, here's a newly posted clip of Ron's Tune where you can hear the Tony Francis Weiss more clearly. Floods are a little harsh, but very few clams...so I can live with it.
