I found and older Fessy or I at least I think it,s a Fessy, the name on it is Ren-Kizer maybe some of you will know more what this means. I want to restore it because it is a beautiful instrument that has tone and sustain that is not present on my GFI.It is all wood body and doesn,t hae a scratch or ding anywhere on it but it has set for an extended time and needs a good and thorough cleaning. I believe it has ashtray style tuning key heads,( I think that is the right terminology), my problem is that the tuning keys are slipping on some strings as it detunes after I play it and does it pretty quickly. What can I do for this and is the replacement keys out there if I need them? I need some one to help walk me through this process. I would most appreciative of any help or advice. Will post pics as soon as I figure out how to post them. Question

Check the screws on the tuning machines.
Dont use the pedals and levers when testing.
If they still slip, you can find inexpensive replacements at allparts or stewmac.

If you are experiencing detuning when using the pedals and levers, it is entirely possible that the tuning keys are not the problem.

Check that there is some slack on the rods at the nylon hex tuners as well.
This is often the cause of detuning issues.
