Back in about 1982, a Film starring Robert Duval won an academy award for best picture. I must have seen it at least thirty times. I just can't get enough of the country blues band that does most of the soundtrack from this film.The blusey dobro solo in the opening scene is simply a "killer".
I wonder if anyone on the SGF played on the soundtrack or if they know who did.
The whole soundtrack was great and featured some great steel guitar parts. I would like to be able to find it so I could listen to it without having to see the whole movie. The movie was great but it's like watching " High Plains Drifter" of Hang 'Em High" on TV. I fall asleep watching it because I have already seen it 1000 times!!

Buddie Hrabal is listed as the steel player in the movie. There are numerous links where you can buy the soundtrack. Just Google "Tender Mercies soundtrack."  |

Robert is one of my favorite actors,this is one of my favorite movies by him. GREAT stuff. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

Stephen Funchess, an old friend I haven't seen in years was the bass player in the local band in that movie. I think the whole band was cast from some local musicians, but I don't remember who the others were.
I think 'The Funchess Brothers' (Steve and Larry) are still around somewhere..

| The band in the movie was a local Dallas band called Rolling Country. Glenn Fleming on guitar, Steve Funchess on bass, Rick Murray on drums, and the steel player was James Aaron. I played steel for the band at night but couldn't do the movie because I was flight instructing during the day. I haven't kept up with any of the guys except Rick Murray who owns and operates restaurants in Winnsboro Texas. Still a great drummer. |

Glenn (now Glynn), a fine guitar player, is currently working with Ray Price. I played a stint with Rolling Country in 1980. I think they had quite a run of steel players in the band, I know Tommy Morrell came before me.
