Found an old undated pic of Buddy Emmons playing a Fender Steel. Can anybody give me any info on it? [/img]

Man, even at that young age, he could play a steel without even touching it!! Wink

The picture is probably from the early 1950s. The steel is a Fender T-8 Custom with trapezoid pickups.

Looks like Eddie Stubbs in the background in his Johnson Mountain Boys days or maybe on the Opry.

I was gonna say damn, Eddie Stubbs still looks the same and looks good today for a man in his 90s.

Not Eddie Stubbs, not the Opry,
it's Buck Lake Ranch, a popular
music venue back in the day,
in the NE corner of Indiana.
Here's a different shot . . .

Great pictures! In Doug's shot, E looks like a young prizefighter right before the opening bell, summoning all his will to accomplish the knockout.

That sure did look like Eddie Stubbs.

In Chas Smith photo, the guy holding the guitar (what little can be seen of him) looks like maybe Speedy West???

That's Speedy. I know we sometimes get carried away with the hero worship, here on the Forum, but those guys set a very high standard and it's impossible not to appreciate it.

Russ, any Idea what year this was and how old Buddy was. Who took the picture? Looks like a teenager.

Frank, funny you should mention that... when Buddy was a youngster he wanted to be a boxer!

That is exactly the way I see it. There are many others to add to that list, too. Speedy will always be extra special to me, though.

Great picture, Doug, never saw that one.

The first picture in the thread also reminds me of the time I saw Pinchas Zukerman (another virtuoso) doing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto: between his parts he'd stand there on stage, muscling up, repeatedly flexing his left hand before wading back in.

Great pics!
Looks to me like he is looking down at a set list or notes on the floor
