Yes, sir. Those were videotaped at WKY-TV in Oklahoma City. I was fortunate to be at all the tapings when Buck came to town. Those were sure fun times.

Thanks for the YouTube link, Glen. Here's another from the same taping. Although Tom can't be seen, his steel pickin' is heard in all it's soulful glory:

I just rambled thru the list of Country Music Hall of Fame inductees and am appalled at the list....

Sonny James
Alabama
Glen Campbell
Kris Kristopherson
Brenda Lee
Elvis
Tom T Hall
Emmylou Harris

Good Gracious.......Where is Wynn Stewart? Come on...Emmylou Harris????? Sonny James????? Alabama?????,etc, etc. There isn't 5 minutes of fiddle and steel in anything anyone of them ever recorded. Who nominates people for induction? We need them replaced. Ask George Jones what he thinks about Wynn Stewart. The Hall of Fame can forget about me ever paying to get in. It's time for a REAL HOF to emerge. I would donate to such a cause. Sorry to rant and rave but the above videos really got me torqued about the injustice shown to country singers that are not part of the Nashville scene.

For Brenda Lee and Elvis....certainly a pop music HOF but COUNTRY MUSIC HOF?????? Not a chance.....Tom T...my choice is none of the above...certainly not before Wynn Stewart.

Give me a break.

I know, I know. Sad

Actually, this has been discussed by yours truly in a thread I started a few weeks ago.

Not long ago, I'd created a "Wynn Stewart" channel on my 'Pandora Radio' account. Guess what? It has yet to play a single Wynn Stewart song. Waylon Jennings: yes; Johnny Cash: yes; Marty Robbins: yes; Buck Owens: yes (close, but no cigar). How can the creator of 'Pandora Radio' claim to understand what I want to listen to if they can't get that right???? Sad

Keep on pickin'!
Glenn

I'm going to take a guess that you've never listened to any Emmylou albums.

As much as I love Wynn Stewart, and he was a bigger influence on more artist then people know, he never played the Nashville game and only had one (1) hit song top (#1) the charts(compared to the 23 that Sonny James had or the 32 that Alabama had and the 14 steel guitar drenched #1 hits that Emmylou has had).

A few years ago I was on a web site where I signed a petition to get Wynn into the Hall of Fame.

!...ben....!
you obviously know nothing about emmylou.
she is responsible for putting exciting, beautiful, sensitive, ass-kicking country music back to the forefront and onto the charts.now if you don't care for hot licks on steel, tele and fiddle....you shouldn't be complaining about the country hall of fame. have you ever heard of ricky skaggs, rodney crowell, james burton, albert lee, hank devito, ron tutt, glen hardin, emory gordy.....

c'mon....look it up!

I'm more or less with Ben on this one...The folks he mentioned had varying amounts of country influences, but their successes tended to have at least as much (soda) pop in them as hard(corn-squeezin')country.Wynn's the real thing.Emmylou was astute enough to make use of Elvis Presley's supremely good taste in sidemen.

I think there's a larger point to be made,though...We shouldn't expect mass-media entities like the various Halls of Fame to be anything other than somewhat genre-related popularity contests (like a Battle of The Bands, maybe?) that bear the same relationship to the "real thing" as a Pontiac GTO does to the Ferrari of the same letter designation.
