When I turn on my computer I get a message that reads

"This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now?" So I click "yes".

Then I get the "Windows Product Activation" window that tells me "Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit."

When I clck OK it takes me to the welcome screen and when I click my account the first message pops up again askin me again if I want to activate windows. Is there anything I can do other than reinstalling Windows?

What version of Windows are you using?

Have you done a System Restore to a date PRIOR to when this behavior started?

Andy:

I don't think XP has the System Restore function in it anyway, going from memory.

Above is a link to 39000 Google search hits on the issue with Windows XP, so it's a known issue experienced by many. I'd wade through them and see what you can come up with.

Reinstallation would be only a very last resort.

Try this procedure to fix the infinite activation loop.
