I have a collected a bunch of bars and have them piled in a plastic box. I want to organize them and was thinking of a cigar box with dividers. Any info or ideas is greatly appreciated.

Before suggesting anything ... is it for 'display' or for 'regular use'?

It's for regular use. I seem to pick up a bunch of bars before I find the one I want to use. I figure if I had some type of tray I could arrange the bars in a reasonable order.

Not too long ago someone suggested and gave a link to a place that sold shotgun shell holders and it looked pretty cool!

I think some form of apron with pockets tailored for bars, might work. Protects the individual bars during transportation, and is easy to hang on the end of the PSG or side of the seat with a number of bars ready for use.

Some folks have used M&M tubes. Not sure what the max diameter is. I know my 7/8" bars fit.

an old hard shell specticle case works. I have used the berocca tablet aluminium tubes. These fit a set of picks as well. I now use the M&M tubes. I just use masking tape for a lable.
I have used a photographers camera lens/filter wallet which had a 8 clear sleeves/pockets and you could see the bars and room for finger picks as well. It folded up very nice. The plastic 'broke down' and became stickey with age. it was about 20 yrs old.Going to try and find another similar thing

Cheers
Jeff

I use to bring one or two boxes like this in my seat and/or case, and there's always a spare one in my car! LOL
You can find similar boxes in hardware or fishing stuff stores...
I cut away two compartment "walls" and glued in some medium density foam to fit the bar size.

You may get a bigger box and get room for all the bars you like...

I make a pouch out of chrome-tanned leather (no rusting or corrosion) and put that inside a nylon pocket knife holder.

Len....A Hohner harmonica case works perfectly for me. The case is designed to hold twelve regular harps plus one chromatic. Since I do not use all 12 keys on any given gig, two of the available slots are used to carry extra bars. The slots are a near perfect size, protect the bars well, and hold them solidly in place when the lid is closed.

Here is my version of "Bar Storage". As you can see it is highly technical, very expensive and very diffucult to make. Very Happy A piece of redwood 2x4 with some holes... Smile
Of course I'm not finished with it yet. It will get some trimed edges and some finish to bring out the grain in the wood..................clark
As you can see I have room for another row for bars acquired in the future...........

Would a rosewood one make the bars sound darker?

Now Clark that IS high tech - I lived in the KC area and know about MO - that does not look like some of that good aged hickory - but that would make the bar have better tone.

That looks like stud lumber which will bring down the house (if it was cut out of the wall) Very Happy Smile

Rose wood for a sweeter tone and ebony for a deeper tone Idea

BUT now we have gotten way of subject but it was fun

I think I need to go back to the shop and work now ---

My steel seat bar holder ... I drilled appropriate size holes in a closed cell block of foam. Works for me.

I use a box similar to Gianni's. Mine is big enough for 2 bars, lots of picks, tuning wrenches other small tools.
At home, I've got a wooden box for bars and bottleneck slides.

Hey Clark Doughty:

I like your idea as I have a a set of fostner bits and I can get several pieces of 1-1/2" oak and drill a bunch of 1" holes, sand & finsh it.

Thanks to all who responded. Great ideas!

I throw mine out in the crowd after every show and for some reason paramedics always seem to show up in that general area. Guess they admire the bars too.
