Heaven Everyday - Youtube

Post by David Hartley »

Myself and John had a pick 2 days ago. We both have our new toys so I captured one of the rehearsed instrumentals with a single camcorder, and recorded the audio directly to minidisc. John is using his new KEN FOX VINTAGE AMP close miked with a studio projects C1 and I was playing the RAINS SD-10 HARTLEY through the TELONICS RIG into 2 x 15" EVANS CABS in the rehearsal room, but the steel guitar audio was captured directly from the Telonics Pre-Amp with a single lead from the LH balanced output on the back. We heard this song being played by the band who set up in the foyer of the Sheraton one evening in Dallas, and very good they were too. Its a Mel Tillis song called HEAVEN EVERYDAY.

I will try and focus the camcorder next time. :D

Hi David, You got a great sound considering you recorded directly to the camera. I never have any luck with that. Great work, great tune. New Rains. You and John sound like a million bucks. Life is good.

Hello Bent..

Post by David Hartley »

Hope you are well Bent.
The audio was recorded on minidisc as we rehearsed the instrumental.
I produced the track in about an hour. John turned up as I was putting it on the iPad. It was the first instrumental we rehearsed and I turned the camcorder on from the start. For some reason, songs we practiced after this one had the steel too low in the mix, I must have turned down as it was VERY loud in the room. There is no editing possibilities afterwards so the rest of the evenings recordings came out unbalanced. I can't be bothered to put a multi tracker in that room, it would waste good practice time. We can learn a lot from watching these videos back, and hopefully correct any errors the next time we practice things. I have just got to get John to stop cursing all the while... I am sure he has got tourettes with coprolalia... ha..I've learnt something already from watching the video.......I've got to lose weight ! Also learn how to focus the camcorder too.

Big gig tonight.. We are finishing off a big country music festival so we are both looking forward to backing Bill Conlon with our new amps. (and guitar for me)..
