I have been looking for a tune credited to Mel Tillis & Ray Price called "Tonight I`m going out and burn some bridges" It has a classic steel intro sounded very much like the Big "E" but I have not been able to find a recording by either artist???
In fact the only thing a you tube search turns up is Tony Booth and that does not really resemble the classic toon thats been rollong around in my head for the last 40 years!! can anyone steer me towards that original toon ?? or did they never bother to record it????

Thanks for any help....JD Smile

Tillis recorded it and at one time I had it on a compilation tape that a buddy put together for me . I've almost quit doing it because the bands always want to jump to the 2 instead of returning to the 4 first and THEN playing the 2 . To be honest , as mostly a singer , I was focusing on learning the words and totally missed the ride you refer to .

Hi John,
I did a long search, and couldn't find it by Tillis or Price,
but I did find these. I think this is the song your looking for.
There's also a version by Porter Wagner, that I didn't care for.

Carl....wrong song . Great song but wrong song . He is asking about a shuffle four that Tillis wrote and recorded and you have referred us to the Roger Miller waltz time song . Again , that's a great song and I do it as well but he's asking about a four four shuffle .

"Burning Memories" or "Another Bridge" to Burn comes to mind....I think I have both on my Ray Price Box set.

Scott....those are great songs but they're not THE song . For whatever reason , this song that John is asking about has remained obscure . Someone {Tony Booth,Billy Mata, Bobby Flores,Jake Hooker , anybody out there listening ?} ought to revive this tune and give it a fresh dose of Texas. Amber , Miss Leslie , Justin , anyone ???

John, is this the song? If so, we can all thank Google. It was on the Mel Tillis album, "One More Time," circa 1970. It's on the Ray Price album, "For the Good Times, also 1970.

Gonna Burn Some Bridges
Recorded Ray Price
Written by Mel Tillis

G D7
Tonight I'm going out and burn some bridges
G
But only on the road that leads to you
D7
Find a bar and drown a million memories
G
What else is there left for me to do

C G
This time I won't give in and let you put me through
C A7 D7
Another day for you to play with a heart that worships you
G D7
Cause tonight I'm going out and burn some bridges
G
But only on the road that leads to you

D7
Tonight I'm going out and burn some bridges
G
Across a crazy river of regret
D7
Find someone who thinks a little of me
G
And maybe somehow then I can forget

Repeat #2

I am not totally positive but I think Curly played on Ray's version since that is him on the For The Good Times album.

I would be much obliged if Bobby Flores would slow it down just a tad and put it on his next CD!!!! My order would be in straight away!!! Smile

I'll see Bobby tomorrow and pass this request on to him. We have studio time reserved in the next couple of weeks for a new cd (finally) so we might have something ready in early June.
