My first time on YouTube

Post by Peter Freiberger »

Just back from my first road trip as a steel guitarist (and the first time I've gone cross country in a van since the '70's!). Here's a clip from the first night out, in Tuscon. It was louder than I've ever had to play and a bit of an adjustment for me.

Sounds great, Peter! The only thing missing is a steel guitar solo in the middle! :)

Hey Pete...very cool. Sounds like you've been taking Jay Dee pills...
Say hi to Eddie Perez for me.

Thanks guys.

Skip, Eddie was, as you probably already know, the life of the party. He has the Don Rich style to a "T" (for Telecaster). And if there were JayDee pills I'd get a prescription for sure, and some intonation pills. Speaking of JayDee, I found this on YouTube. Has to be JayDee, on a tune he also recorded with Jerry Inman years ago:

JayDee's playing

Peter, I have this Ray Price album, it's a great example of a great singer, and production with several great players. Thanks for posting it...

Thanks, Larry. I'll be looking for that record. Who are the other players?

Larry, Found a copy of "Ray Price, Master Of The Art",on Amazon. It doesn't seem to be available as a CD. Glad I still have a turntable. It's a Snuff Garrett production so it should have JayDee on steel.

From this day on it's become one of my favourite songs!
I think it's nice that you were playing all the way through the song. Your intonation is perfect. (I myself would have messed it up :()

Thanks, Joachim, much appreciated. I think my intonation wavered at other times. The overall volume made it difficult for me to hear myself all the time. I would have liked the guitar to take the fills during the verses and leave me the choruses, but I was happy to take the fills there too. If I do it again I'll use two amps and sit closer to them, if possible.
