I'm seriously thinking about driving to St. Louis this year and attending the convention. After reading some posts from previous years it sounds like the hotel is a real hassle.
Is there a place to park my car if I'm not staying at the millenium hotel, especially if it's full? I also want to attend the Jernigan Seminar and bring my guitar but carrying a steel from a parking garage 2 miles away would probably kill me. I have relatives that live within an hour of St Louis so I will probably drive instead of stay at the hotel each day. Basically I'm wanting some tips to avoid any hassles. Thanks for any input. |

Well, for starters, you could drive up to the Millenium and drop your steel off with the doorman. Tip him a coupla bucks to hold it for you till you return after parking. No big deal there... |

There is plenty of parking just across the street. I usually park a block or so away on the street for free though.

Busch Stadium is one block away. The Cardinals are playing a home stance Labor day weekend, traffic gets congested about an hour before the game.Harder to find parking then also.

Also, for starters the millenium hotel is usually booked solid by the end of May (if not before) for this awesome event. As is some of the hotels nearby. So if you have not made reservations already, you may be pressed to find a room anywhere near. Parking in the lot across the street is a possiblility but it is quite expensive.

First time in St Louis I stayed at La Quinta way out of the downtown area. It was a nice hotel at $45 a night (through our local AAA Office), and I only had the inconvenience of driving ten miles in to the event. That time I used the parking lot across the road from The Millenium and, by some quirk of fate, the booth was open and unattended each night! Free parking....
The following year we stayed at the Millenium - it cost $230 for three nights after the parking fee was added to my bill! Our room wasn't a patch on the La Quinta, and I found the hotel grossly inefficient.
Never again - one of the worst hotel experiences I've had in the USA.
