That's just it--the gear is nothing without the player. Django turned that guitar into the Holy Grail of guitars with the way he played it. It is priceless and worthless at the same time (not literally, but you get my drift, I hope).

I just wish I could have seen Django playing it in person. But then I'd be even older than I am.
I bet he'd think it was really funny that it's being shown such reverence! |

When Django came to America, he left his selmer home and picked out a guitar from the Epiphone factory. He disliked the American-made guitars and lamented that he missed his Selmer.

Ebony nut with a zero fret.
I have two copies of this guitar, even the cheap Asian import version has a massive amount of volume. I attribute that to the design of 503.
