Been studying with Jimmy Bruno for about 1.5 years and enjoying learning my way around a 6-string after so many decades dedicated to the pedal steel. I played 6-string before steel, but I wasn't very accomplished at it. I'm still not, but I'm a heckuva lot better than I was a year and a half ago! Smile

Anyway, I made this video for my Bruno lesson this week and thought I'd post it here to get some feedback from you more-experienced guitarists in the house. I'm open to all constructive criticism (and Lord knows I could use it!)

Here it is: http://youtu.be/t_rYm3_xslk

Thanks in advance,

Jimbeaux

James,

Stayin' up late tonight.

Sounds good to me. But then again, what do I know when it comes to jazz?

"Fear not the treaders". For they know where-upon they
tread". Watch out for those who criticize; for they, sooner or later, will become criticized.

...anyway, sounds damn good; nice lookin' axe, as well.

Chip Fossa; professional opinionator, and red worm harvester. Very Happy

Nice Jim ! Great song, nice touch.

Here is a study that I work with every now and then, I pull it out every few years and I am always learning new things from it. If you don't have this I would highly recommend it. A great study...I have owned it for maybe 10 years now and I'm only about 50 % complete ! There is an amazing 1-6-2-5 study, chock full of chords and subs...

Nice axe by the way , thanks for posting the clip.

Thanks, guys. I'm workin' on it.

Tony, thanks for the recommendation. I just ordered it through Netflix and might end up buying it later on. I have found that sometimes it's best to stick to one guru rather than get too distracted by different teaching approaches at the same time. Not that there isn't great stuff to be learned from all of them but probably any of these paths, if followed with dedication and intelligence, will get you there (wherever "there" is...) Wink

Oh, and the guitar is a Washburn J6, built in 1998.

Neck pickup, Jim. Winking

Coming along nicely. I'm glad that the JB institute is working for you.

Thanks, Mike. I do know enough to use the neck pickup, but when I'm recording these videos, that gives me way too much bass response and the sound distorts through my webcam mic. So I have to go with the bridge pickup for recording these lesson videos. It sounds crummy in the room, but picks up decently on the recording without all the distortion (well, you can still hear some when I'm comping chords).

Hi Jim,
Sounding good! It's great that you're learning a new instrument, and I bet it will enhance your steel playing. Hope you're doing well.
