I learned Roadside Rag back in the middle 40's. Evidently it goes a long way back from where I learned it. I wonder who wrote it and if it was originally written not just for Steel Guitar.

Nice job. I grew up listening to my dad play that on his D6 Fender in the 50s.

Billy,
It may have been Bill Boyd. I talked with Herb Remington and he thought it might have been him too. He also mentioned Leon Mac as a possible writer.

The earliest recordings I have are : November 7th 1944 - Cliff Bruner & His Texas Wanderers - Harris Dodd on Steel - credits to song: Andrew Schroeder.
(Bear Family Box set)

The second is January 1946 - Bill Boyd's Cowboy Ramblers. There may be an earlier recording but I found no other information.

Thanks Bobby, Roger, Drew and Billy for the comments. This is one of my favorite instrumentals.
