Got this nice Mullen U 12, 7 P, 6 K. This would be a E9th- B6th tuning. My question, is there an ultimate tuning with 7p 6K triple raise double lower. Have looked at several different on here, but dont know which would be best. E9th not really a problem, would like to get a little better 6th out of her. Sure cant get as good as D10. Help please.

Thanx Doug

If you post what your B6th pedals and levers currently do (or better yet, list what all the pedals and levers currently do), we could take it from there.
You should be able to match any D10 6th tuning you like, although if it only has 7 pedals, it was probably meant to be played without the D10 C6th P4.

Doug - I play a Pre-Royal Precision Mullen U-12 with 7 pedals and 6 knee-levers. Shoot me an email and I'll return it with an Excel spreadsheet, showing my tuning.

A lot of folks seem to think that the Jeff Newman version of the E9/B6 universal tuning is all there is. In fact, there are almost as many variations as there are knowledgeable players who use that tuning. If you check out Joe Wright, Cowboy Eddie Long, and others who use that tuning to its best advantage you will realize that there are a bunch of tweaks out there.
For example . . .
If the B6 side of the tuning is most important, you have the option of tuning open to B6 and raising D# to E with a lever (possibly locking).

Also, regardless of whether you tune 4 and 8 to E or D#, you can add all the Buddy Emmons levers but realize that

* the B pedal can sometimes be used as the A to Bb KL on C6 (not as easy to combine as a lever, but it's there)

* if you lower G# to G on 6, that is the equivalent of A to Ab

that covers two of the 'additional Emmons C6 levers' == you already have B to Bb (equivalent of C to B on C6) and can half pedal the A pedal (again, in some cases -- not as easy as a dedicated lever) for the C to C# change on C6. The C to C# change is less necessary on the U12 since both the G and D on top are available if you lower 2 to C# on your E to D# lever.

Hope this wasn't too much to digest, but there is a lot of stuff there, just with 5 or 6 levers.

Please take a look at my website if you're interested in more info.

My U-12 tuning is slightly different than most as I wanted to keep my 9th string "D"for E9th playing but not for the B6th. It uses a lock to toggle between the two tunings.

The C6 E to F lever is there too, just release the Es lower...
I believe Dave Easley uses an E to F lever.

Looked at several and printed them off. Lee Bauum, Carl Dixon,Mike Perlowin. Have to be careful might short circuit the ole noggin. Been playin D10 ProII Sho-Bud
since early 80s. Not a pro by any means, tryed learnin some C6 just never used it much. Whenever I listen to Big E or Jimmy Day kinda spurs me somewhat.
Really appreciate yalls advice on this project.

Thanx Doug

Again, this is one of those issues where there in no definitive answer, It's really a matter of what you prefer.
