Hi everyone,
I am soon to be 76 years young. I have
loved steel guitar since I have known what music was I wear 2 hearing aids and I am
trying to learn the guitar. I have recently attended jams at Saluda S.C. and Kanappolis
N.C. I am giong to the Sanford jam and any others that I can.
Ken I read on the forum that Chuck
Campbell received an award in Washington
D.C. recently. I was wondering if it was the same Chuck Campbell that was at Kannapolis, I really loved his style
of playing. See you at the jams....

Monroe... we welcome you to our group. Just remember that throughout your learning period there will be times when you just don't think you'll ever get it and the frustration will be great from time to time..but heed these words. Your love for the sound of the instrument will eventually prevail. You may never sound like one of the greats and then again you may. What you should remember is that you are learning this for the love of it and enjoy each time you have the opportunity to sit down to it. In the meantime you will meet many people along the way who you will find more than willing to help you out if you ask. As for our Chuck Campbell....I am sorry to say that our Chuck wasn't called to Washington for an award...and I know he won't get one for being a young handsome man. He's not getting an award for his "playing shoes" either
But I can tell you this...He is a great steel player...a great bass player...and a great vocalist...and he is a dear friend. He is one of the nicest people I know and would do anything to help anyone out. Guys like "our Chuck" don't need awards...they are already "our" awards and I for one appreciate all that "our" Chuck Campbell stands for. As for you Monroe...feel free to call on me anytime for some help in learning how to play. Oh I don't have any good licks to show you but I can tell you all the bad habits to not do because I swear I know every single one of em.
I will not be able to attend this jam as much as I want to because I have gigs to play throughout the entire weekend...but I will do all I can to be there next time. Heck...just thinking about it I don't know if I ever missed one since I started. It's great fun and time to meet great people and fellowship. You kids have fun this weekend.

We're planning on coming. Is Mrs. Latchum bringing her fiddle?

Good jam. Smaller than normal - we had 12 to 15 steels set up. The highlight was with the band that evening. They were cooking.
Thanks Skip for the hard work!
