I have a red, white, blue EMCI, SN0004. Anyone know when these were made, and maybe how many. Great sounding steel. Thanks.

Dave, these guitars come out as MCI in Waco,Tx. late 70's or early 80's designed by Bud Carter. The company was sold and moved to Arlington,Tx. Gene Fields, Red Rhodes, and others were then involved in design. After Buddy Emmons got involved, the E was added to the logo hence, EMCI. Gretsch(sp) bought the company and no more EMCI. There were a lot of these guitars sold.Lots of different color schemes. I played one for years. In my opinion, one of the best all pull guitars ever built. A lot of the great players played the guitars including Buddy. Jody.

What's the deal with Gretsch anyway? First they get Sho-Bud and tank it, then EMCI. They seem to not like steels for some reason.

Sammie! Gretsch did not tank anyone! It was more-less the other way around, When you can't make money with a product, you must pull out! I won't go into detail, as too many well know people were involved, Including myself. I was Sho-Bud Product Mgr. with Gretsch from 1975 to 1980. Regards! Al Udeen

Al, Why'd they buy it then?
