Jack, I was basing my statement on a conversation I had with Jerry Wallace approximately 4 years ago. I requested my pickup wound to 19.5 and he stated that he had wound John's pickups for his Zum to 19.5 as well.

I was under the impression that in his last few years he was using Emmons pickups wound to 18.2k. But I'd like for someone else to confirm that, it's been a while.

Brad, I worked at Emmons a few years back when John called us and ordered 2 pick-ups for one of his guitars. I made them and they were 18.5K single coils. I recently made one for Buddy Emmons and sent it through a friend. His was a single coil at 14.7K. I hope this helps.

By the way, John Hughey let me play his guitar through his amps one time when he was still with the Twitty Birds. It didn't sound like him. I guess that sound he had comes from his hands!

Doug

John told me one time that he was gonna put Emmons single coils in all of his guitars...and if the recording engineers said anything about the hum that he was just gonna tell them that it was part of his tone...Ha!....I miss John Hughey.
