Y'know who deserves a place in the HOF? I'm being serious, here. But there's guys that I know who've raised families, playing locally. Wouldn't it be great if we could recognize these people?

Isn't that what local steel clubs do?
But in Scotty's HOF?.........Then you might as well start off with , say, 70% of the guys on the Steel guitar forum.
That will really water the whole thing down. I've seen similar calls for some of the Steel players who've made it their life's ambition to do regular posts of their 'Play by numbers' efforts on Youtube.

Steve, we think alike. The Georgia Steel Guitar Association honors Legend Members and Jerry Braswell's Northwest Georgia Steel Guitar Show sponsors the Steel Guitar Wall Of Fame. Both of these are to honor local players who have had an impact on steel guitar either as a player or promoter.

Prediction: THIS IS BOBBE'S YEAR.

Phred, my money's on the Bobster too.

Of course Bobbe deserves it. But I'm talking about some kind of mass recognition. I don't believe it would weaken the other members' status. Roger, you guys got a good idea, keep it up.

I just hope this doesn't end up as it normally does - questioning the integrity of the selection committee.

I think Bobbe is long over due, but I'm thinking ROB PARKER also.

Yes, Stu. He was inducted in 2004.

Bobbe is certainly very most deserving. I would add Gene Fields to that list. I understand why other have been posthumously honored. But why wait for the recipient to be in "our Lord's band" before induction?

It puzzled me why it took so long to induct Red Rhodes, for example. I have read some very impassioned reasons for the process and understand to a point. Unfortunately, the group of living inductees is shrinking faster than any of us would like. It seems to have become a recipe of self-destruction for the HOF; which saddens me deeply. If cost of plaques or whatever is the issue; then maybe steps could be taken to supplement the pot so to speak for a while or indefinitely, so that we could slightly increase the number of annual inductees. For example, if we have 10,000 forumites or thereabouts, maybe we mount a campaingn to donate $1 a year assuming that the HOF is properly setup as a NFP organzation. Maybe you smart tax guys know if or how to do this.

We have a wonderful instrument and a unique genre. Preservation and dissemenation of this to the broader audience could certainly complemented by the Ambassadors of this instrument, meaning living HOF members. My challenge to all of the Forumites is how can we best do this?

I did not mean for this thread to turn into another "why's HE in there?"/"Steve OUGHTA be in there" kind of arguments. I want Bobbe Seymour in, just cause he was nice to me in the store, and everytime we talk.
I would like to see the "little guys" get some recognition, that's all.

I think I understand your idea Steve and it is a good one.

I think Bill Ferguson is a candidate because of the 30+ years of steel shows he has recorded live on audio and then video! Now he spends many hours, researching, editing and getting artists' permission to publish these on YouTube under under his "Steelpicker" ID. Bill makes this material available for all of us and it doesn't cost anyone anything more than the cost of an Internet connection! It's just a labor of love. He does not profit from this at all.

And he is a mentor to several younger players (and Roger )

Never in a million years would I ever describe Bobbe as a "little guy". He is a major player, and is steeped in involvement in the instrument over many years. He is also a six footer!!

Lets not forget also long over due Russ Hicks...

Mr. Cunningham, thank you. Bill is a prime example. So were guys like Charles Reece, Mac Atchison(sp), Garland Nash----And what about Woody, Johnny, Bob, Hartley, and Wayne Smith?
Hell, forget it. Shut this thread down ASAP. What I though was a good idea has turned into a peeing contest. Again. The HOF board has a hard enough job as it is.

Gents, in my previous post I offered a suggestion that possibly was lost in the muck and for that I apologize.

Certainly, there are a number of great players and contributors to our PSG World that deserve induction. There appears to be some limitations to why some are not inducted. It appears that limited financials might be a contributor to the limitation. I am not suggesting totally opening the flood gates, but maybe a way in which the nominating committe might have some additional financial resources to work with. After all, if we look at the list of inductees and their ages when inducted, granted they have been truly deserving, a number of them were younger in their careers. It just seems that limitation to 3 inductees is leading that group closer to extinction or at the least a posthumous honor. As my mother used to say, "Give them roses, while they can still smell them!" Doesn't any one else see this????

There are lots of players all around the Country who build reputations as great players of their locales..Because they don't wind up in Nashville (most by their own choice for reasons of their own) or on records they don't get credit beyond their areas...I know of several that could play the big stages and hold their own or be even better than a lot that do. ..Thanks to places like these Forums they will get some recognition..I did not read the intent for this post correctly before my first post..

Joe Casey, you are so very correct. Some great reginal players are being overlooked. However, I remember what Paul Franklin said in the middle of one of our friendly discusions on this forum a few years ago,
he stated that it matters not how well one plays if he doesn't do something with it, or something to this effect, like, what good is talent if you don't use it.
I've been thinking about this for a long time, he just might have something there.
But still, I have heard some great great players that very few folks have never heard.

Remember this too, the HOF is not just geared to great players to induct, as a matter of fact, there are severl folks in the HOF that really don't play that well, however, they DO FILL OTHER CRITERIA that makes them VERY qualified to be in this exclusive club. You need to be famous, you need to have touched many steel players lives in one way or another, need to have been a figure to be respected,(some almost lost it here Ha! Ha!)
Being famous is nice but not everything, being a great player is nice, but again not everything either.
I feel the way the board does that it's the guy that does the most for the steel guitar population that should be in the HOF. Either through his playing, or other acts of connecting to the populous.
The SGHOF is a organization which lets players know how you guys feel about him, he should feel very honored to be inducted, most do!
