Hi guys,

I came across this guitar and would like to know something more about it. It's a "Conqueror", that is supposedly made by Guyatone ? What would something like this be worth ?

$175-225. They are not bad guitars for the money, but the metals on it are flimsy and the pickups are quite microphonic.

I had one EXACTLY like this. It was my first "real" steel guitar after using a guitar with a pencil stuck under the strings at the nut.

Yes, as mike said, the pickups are microphonic... you can TALK thru them!
But they were pretty hot. Actually, that one sounded much better than the next guitar I had, a Gibson Grand Console which looked like the real deal but sounded weak compared to that Guayatone.

Some Guayatones are almost as good instruments as most Fenders... some are by far not.

Btw... mine had three legs too.

Guyatones are fairly well constructed ... sorta like a poor man's Fender. Those switches are always a pain in the okole. This guitar is nothing more than 'student' material and the price quoted is about right.

My old Guyatone had a "raw" kind of sound, unlike any lap steel I've ever heard. Kind of a harsh tone, but very good for certain kinds of music. Wish I had kept it. I used that guitar to record "How D'Ya Do"...link below.

Thanks for all the feedback guys !

Doug, I had never listened to that mp3... GREAT playing and feel...and the tone of that Guyatone (at least in your hands) is really pretty good to my ear. Thanks! Do you have a tab / video of that tune ?

Think I'll hold off on this one though... a Fender Deluxe 6 or Dual 6 will turn up I'm sure.

Thanks Mitch, I'm glad you like it. No, I never did any tab or video of "How D'ya Do".
