Just the coolest player... He must be tuned different on the "E9" neck. Not sure how he was getting some of those changes, really nice!

Hey Kevin...I'm not sure about the finer points of Danny's setup, but I'm pretty sure his top neck is tuned to A6, where the A&B pedals do a reversed version of E9. Isn't he the coolest!!!! 8)

Welcome Larry, He is just different sounding, it's the way he hears and thinks that just makes him a part of the sounds we are not accustomed to hearing..I thinks it's Great!...
he does lower to get his E9th sounds...I had a great visit with him while in Az, we went horse back riding in the desert, talked steel's & horses, which he loves a lot!...damm good little cowboy, I just wish we could get him to play some shows, I keep trying, maybe one day :\

Danny is a super picker. He has his own style. He has such great control in his hands and fingers that sometimes I don't notice that he is not using the volume pedal! Even if maybe some songs of his are not right up my alley; when Danny plays it, it sounds oh so melodic to my ears.

Not only is he a great musician and steel player, he is also very personable and friendly. I asked him about his copedent a while ago, he promptly sent me a personal letter with all the info. Not everybody would take the time and do that to a stranger.

I guess y'all can detect that I have a great admiration for Danny...

Danny is amazing. His mind has the ability pull tones out of the scale that we don't hear and does it with the skill of a surgeon. It's not just mechanical but it pulls us into what he's playing and it pleases our inner being like we're not used to hearing. A rare talent, indeed. I'm only sorry I didn't take the time to be around Danny when I lived in my favorite state. GREAT POST, David.

Amazing Player

You are so right, David - Danny's creative mind must be wired just slightly different from most. I've not heard anyone play steel like that - he comes very close to your style just more abstract. I could certainly hear you and Danny trading licks and feeling right at home with each other.

Another Danny Sneed fan here. He called me out of the blue once and we talk over the phone occasionally. I wrote his tuning and changes down, darned if I can find them now. An American original, he is He loves to ride and loves his horses. His wife shot those videos.
