Time Jumpers in Portland OR Tomorrow Night?!?!

I have it that they are playing at the Lloyd Ctr Red Lion.

Also that Dawn Sears and Ranger Doug are singing, and that Vince Gill will be playing guitar...

Let's see...

Who Else.....

OH!

Paul Franklin on Pedal Steel.

I've got a gig at Jollies off Exit 9 I-5 North tonight and tomorrow night or I'd be there. I'd LOVE to go otherwise. I'm playing with SBD abd Kevin Neal on guitar which I wouldn't miss for love, money or even Dawn's lovely voice.

At least there's gonna be ONE of us playing in tune tomorrow, and a couple less cheeto gobblers on the couch..

Seriously, anybody that can could get out a few bucks and see them. My life hasn't been the same since I saw them at the Station Inn in 05, and Paul Franklin certainly does John Hughey proud.

I'm around at 5zero3 2zero9 9012 if Dawn or anybody wants to have coffee tomorrow.

It ain't just The Timejumpers, there's a lot of great music happening (some as I write this) at the festival. Wish I could shoot up to Portland!

For goodness sake, don't miss the Incredible Stringdusters! Killer band, and Andy Hall is one of the very best in the business on dobro. Check out his Andy Hall Signature model resonator luthiered by Tooter Meredith of Alabama, who calls his instruments "The muscle cars of resonator guitars."

I bet Kenny Sears will be playing fiddle too....maybe he will bring Dawn over for some coffee!!

I think that Vince Gill even sings too, besides being a badass guitar player. I went to see them last Monday night at the Station Inn and it's just unbelievable. Paul and Andy Reiss have some of the coolest twin stuff worked up.

But you're right, Eric...it would be worth a plane ticket out there to hear Dawn sing Sweet Memories....or anything else she sings.

Oh yeah. The Kenny thing...

Like I said seeing/hearing them was a life changing event for me those few years ago.

I heard that it's a pretty big affair, and I'm surprised it hasn't gotten a lot of publicity. The Red Lion there has over the years hosted our 'fair board auditions' in the main ballroom. Hadn't been there for years.

I wonder if a pro player like Tim has to join the line outside the Station Inn or are you just kind of allowed in the door at some point instead of having to wait in line with "the unwashed masses" for The Timejumpers?

I was in Nashville two months ago for Resosummit IV, and stuck around two days after it was over on Sunday evening and stayed at a friend's house outside of Franklin. This couple moved there from Northern Calif. five years ago.

I had already been at The Station Inn for three consecutive nights because there were shows set up for us each evening featuring great dobro players (Justin Moses, Mike Auldridge, and Rob Ickes - who puts on Resosummit).

I wanted to go down on Monday night to catch The Timejumpers, but my buddy wasn't up for it. He said he's seen them about five times since moving to Nashville, and ever since Vince joined on a fairly regular basis, you'd have to get down there and stand in line for close to three hours to get good seats for the 9 p.m. show.

I was a little disappointed not to see them, but it worked out okay for me because after enjoying a great roast beef dinner cooked by the lady of the house, we watched what turned out to be the final game of the World Series, when Tim Lincecum shot down the Rangers to give my Giants their first World Series victory in 56 years. I've been a Giants fan since I was a kid in the 1960's, and have had season tickets at various times over the years. If the game hadn't been on I would have gone downtown and joined the line to wait for the show.

Actually, just two days prior to flying to Nashville I saw Vince here in Santa Rosa, he was at the end of his recent tour. And he had Dawn singing with him. No Paul Franklin on steel though, just some "slacker" by the name of Tommy White... ;-)

The event will be at the Red Lion Jantzen Beach, on the Columbia River, on the East side of the I5.

Hey Gang,
For anyone thinking of just checking it out... There is a ton of stuff to check out that is totally free. You only need a ticket to get into the main ballrooms.
Tons of open jamming, so bring an axe, or at least your picks to check out the instruments in the demo rooms.
Take Exit 308 off of I-5 to get there.
Workshops kick off at 10:30 and bands start at noon.

I spent the evening (Fri) at the show and it was great.
I saw one of the best drummers I have seen, and her name is Lisa Pancratz, of Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women (she is a seriously talented drummer).
Cindy Cashdollar was on Dobro (and several other Lap Steels), and she looked great and played great.
I was totally sucked in by that group, they played for two hours.
John Jorgenson did his Gypsy Jazz set, and I am gong to a workshop with him this morning at 10:30.
Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band was great. Good to see Peter every few years as I do.
Guy Clark and Verlon Thompson. Great.
I saw Paul Frankin walking around. He was upstairs listening to our boys Harley James and Russ Blake on the Silver Sparkle Emmons PP-D10 that they use in The Buckles.
Today The Quebe Sisters, The Time Jumpers, and a bunch of others.
They have a pool and jacuzzi so I am bringin' my trunks for a mid afternoon dip(cover the childrens eyes)!
Lots of little kids (6-12-ish looking) playing bluegrass in the hallway also. They were really good, too!
Kinda far parking in some cases but they have golf carts going around giving rides to the front door.
Fun Stuff!

Hey, you can even wet a line while you are there! I have a long background in the nursery industry, and of course one thing Oregon is known for is the moniker "The Nursery State."

One year I was at the Red Lion for an industry convention and there were some guys fishing for sturgeon right off the concrete patio area next to the hotel.

Pete. I think that would be Russ Blake with Harley.

Like I said, I'm surprised we didn't get more of a heads up.

I had to look it up on the TJ Website.

Great thing.

People rarely mention the drummer when discussing the players in bands, but I will now. Rick Vanaugh, of the TJ's is one monstrously good drummer. Whatever style. Just thought I'd mention it. I've played with him and it was ultra-pleasureable, no lie.

Hey, Rick! :)

Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women were fantastic last night. Pete B is right - what a band! You've got to check them out if they play anywhere where you can possible see them.

It's always great to see the Buckles with Harley and Russ. A Portland treasure for sure.

Heading back now to catch the first of two Time Jumper seer today!

Herb, I agree. Rick Vanaugh and I played with Mel Tillis for a few years and it was sure a pleasure. I might also add that Dennis Crouch is one of the best upright bass players on the planet. Then there's Rick Taylor on the accordian...what a monster player he is. Andy Reiss, Joe Spivey, Larry Franklin, Kenny Sears, Ranger Doug....they're all just super players. Paul is always amazing. And like Kenny said last Monday night..."What an honor to have an international superstar in your band". Speaking of Vince Gill of course! It's surely something to behold. Like they say...it's timeless music and we're lucky to have a band of that caliber to go and hear.

I sure liked them when I saw heard and met them them in Nvl.

I didn't know who the fiddle lineup would be or the drummer so I just posted the heads up. Sorry.

Enjoy. One of the few times I wish I didn't have a gig.

Off to Jollies..

Wow!!! only heard about this show at about noon/Saturday on the forum, and didn't get on the road until about 4:00 PM, but made it in time to see Tim O'Brien (my personal favorite mandolinist), and then Rhonda Vincent.

But of course my main mission was seeing the Time Jumpers... just got back from the late show and all I can say is, superlative in every way...Where to start, I was sitting less than ten feet away from Paul Franklin and Vince Gill!!! Some cool steel/guitar harmony parts as previously mentioned: (Franklin/Andy Reiss), but oh what soulful playing from Paul Franklin...like the best of Lloyd and Buddy combined, but strained through Franklin!

By the way Paul seemed to be sick 'cause he had several coughing attacks during the show.

And man Vince Gill is an awesome guitar player too! I always respected his lead playing but I had no idea what a good rhythm player he was; he was just very impressive on some of the very-fast swing tunes the Time Jumpers did! Of course his singing ain't bad either?

And the rhythm-section...pardon my language but sheet...these guys could make anyone look good! In fact this entire band is made up of incredible players and singers!

After the show said howdy to Paul Franklin, it was kinda funny because he was actually wheeling around his own steel on one of those hotel luggage carts that the hotels use for your luggage, I joked that "didn't his dad give him a case for the steel he made for him", and of course he said the case was in his room...several people offered to be a temporary roadie, but he wanted to haul his own gear! How about that?

I was waggin' the dog on if I should go or not, but went with my first impulse and just did it! Good choice! Thanks to the original poster for letting everyone know about this!

Regards: Chuck

I caught both shows yesterday...Very Nice!

Those two performances were more than worth the $130 it cost to get in for the weekend, and no disparaging anybody else who played...(Andy Hall, Cindy Cashdollar, etc...)-The TJ's and Paul show there at Portland is about the coolest thing I've ever seen. Paul had the predominantly Bluegrass crowd clapping for every solo...Vince and the whole rest of the band were...well, words fail me. And Dawn Sears has the voice of an angel.

I'm still decompressing from the whole thing...think I'll change my strings :-)

PS-It was nice to see the Oregon contingent--Larry Behm, Pete Burak, Vinnie del Vecchio, et. al.,...

I can't believe I missed this..
This is what happens when one doesn't visit this forum at least once a day
One of the best bands ever!
