Those are some fun photos and captions ... looked like some fun gigs.
I don't know if playing at home counts as a New Year's Eve gig, but that's how I spent my evening (which turned out a little interesting to say the least).
A buddy showed up armed with his guitar, some Crown Royal, Barefoot Wine (Pinot Noir), Bea's English Honey Mead and some brand of cheap champagne and he was ready to get drunk and play the New Year's in.
I'd not played in a couple of months because there were four broken strings on my guitar and, due to watching my expenses while on unemployment, I hadn't yet got around to getting a new set of strings.
He started playing his guitar and I contented myself at first watching him play, but by the time I'd had a few glasses of wine and virtually the entire bottle of honey mead (that stuff is nectar of the gods), I was having major steel guitar withdrawal symptoms and really wanted to play, so I rummaged around and found that nine year old set of strings that Mickey Adams and I took off my guitar back when we overhauled it several months ago (I'd kept them as a sort of "keepsake" because they'd been on my guitar for so long).
I took that old set of Ernie Ball strings and did something I swore I'd never do ... put a set of strings that had been taken off of my guitar back on it. I couldn't believe that not a single one of them broke as I put them on and tuned up. Then we started playing along with tracks. Although the tone wasn't anything like a new set of strings and I had to fight to try to get sustain because they were so dead, they actually stayed in tune as I played and we had a blast. At one point, my buddy took a photo of me playing along with one of the tracks ...
... the grin on my face is a combination of joy at playing steel after laying off a couple of months plus lots of English honey mead consumed ... and that was my "New Year's Gig" ... we had a blast playing music that night and, thanks to all the alcohol that was flowing, I played licks I didn't know I knew ... some of them I wish I could remember and others I'm only to happy to forget!

Here's a pic from a gig on the 1st, Saturday nite...
It's my Chicago tribute band, Colour My World, so no steel on stage here.
But the guitar player on the left plays steel, & I'm a genuine newbie.
HAPPY NEW YEAR...!

I had the good fortune to play NYE with my friends The Earl Sanders, Jr. band at Othie's, in Sealy, Tx.
My daughter Maddy joined us for the night on fiddle - she played a stirring rendition of Faded Love that brought the house down.
This photo is from early on in the evening, as we were getting all set up and sound-checked.
Happy New Year to all!

Stuart, do you pay your drummer an excessive amount of money?
It looks as if he's the only band member that can afford a razor.
