Which tuning are you using, Gary? I have several suggestions on my web site.

Doug's C6 book and CD set for 6 string lap steel is a VERY good place to start IMO

If it's Hawaiian you're interested in......................

WHY NOT check out JERRYBYRD-FANCLUB.com

All kinds of information........tunings, guitars, actual sounds of JERRY BYRD's playing, etc.

Just didn't want you to miss it if that's what you're looking for.

As Ray hints at, the most comprehensive Hawaiian (and other) Steel Course is by Jerry Byrd. It's definitely an investment, but it comes with 2 CD's of him playing the examples/tunes.

You can get that at Scotty's. It really helped me to get going, and I am still working on the later lessons. If you're coming from pedal you might be able to zoom through the first parts of the book.

Check out the free tab here in the forum (link at top of the non-pedal page). Basil has a bunch of nice hawaiian TAB and backings.

Also check out Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association (HSGA) -- a wonderful bunch of folk :) http://www.hsga.org
