A few months ago I brought my mid 30's Frying Pan down to ANeFX, a post production studio located in Burbank. I was told that the order of the day consisted of coming up with some weird other-wordly sounds. I had no idea of the context other than it was supposed to sound like the end of the world. Ok.

I used the Frying Pan and many effect pedals including a Z-Vex Fuzz Factory, the Line 6 M-13, an Analog Man Bi-Chorus, and an E-Bow. The guys at the studio were really taken with the funkiness of the guitar, and when I explained that it was the first electric guitar, they totally flipped out. I have the A-25 and it's tuned to a low C, so it really growls.

Here is a picture of the setup

I returned recently to watch the finished product over picture, and it was actually pretty frightening. The guitar became the sound of a horrible menacing dooms-day phantom weather tornado aluminum siding chewing poltergeist.

Anyways, it was a Rick Frying Pan! And I'm sure no one in America who happened to be watching ( not me.... No TV! ) would have guessed what was making that awful racket.

Here's the article and you have to scroll down a little more than half way.

Interesting behind-the-scene insights, Joshua, not too common for a studio ace to whip out an A-25 these days!

You must have some more tales after touring with the Eagles, can we hear your work with them?

I've employed the steel guitar in similar ways for various recording projects. It is a great sound production platform for lots of non-traditional applications. Always gets great response from those who are not familiar with the creative possibilities available with them.

Yeah well put Julian...

Ron, I never have worked w the Eagles, but I did a tour supporting them with the Dixie Chicks this past summer. Those girls are the coolest. They're like every girl I've ever had a crush on combined. Also they are insanely talented musicians.
PS: Joe Walsh is amazing.

Here is a clip of the song Sin Wagon from the tour this summer. There's a steel break thing at the end of the tune.

Very nice playing Josh! Still got the same old 'Bud you got from Greg Leisz?

Absolutely love Joe Walsh, he is a monster musician for sure!

All the best,

Julian

The anti-steel forces of evil tried to keep you out of camera shot the whole tune, but you triumphed at the end. Congrats on scoring the gig.

Joe is WAY better than he gets credit for.
